Governor A. A. Sule: Honouring Parents – A Pathway to Divine Blessings and Lasting Success

By Dr. Sulaiman Abdulwahab Sulaiman, CNA

In a world where societal values are constantly evolving, acts of genuine humility, respect and devotion to one’s parents remain timeless virtues that distinguish true leadership. 20th March, 2026 was Eid-el-Fitr. During the blessed celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, His Excellency, Governor A. A. Sule, once again demonstrated a remarkable example of filial piety by visiting and honouring his parents, an act that reflects not only cultural values but, more importantly, divine instruction.

Islam places immense emphasis on kindness and dutifulness to parents. The Glorious Qur’an repeatedly reminds believers of this sacred obligation. In Surah Al-Isra (17:23), Allah (SWT) commands:

“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him and that you be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour.”

This powerful verse underscores that respect for parents is second only to the worship of Allah. It is therefore not surprising that acts of humility towards parents are accompanied by divine favour and blessings.

Governor Sule’s gesture of personally visiting his parents, showing humility and maintaining a down-to-earth disposition is a practical reflection of this Qur’anic injunction. Leadership, in its truest sense, begins from the home, how one treats their parents often mirrors how they will serve their people. His conduct is not merely symbolic; it is deeply spiritual and profoundly instructive.

Furthermore, in Surah Luqman (31:14), Allah says:

“And We have enjoined upon man to be good to his parents. His mother carried him in weakness upon weakness… Give thanks to Me and to your parents; unto Me is the final destination.”

This verse connects gratitude to Allah with gratitude to parents, establishing a direct link between human relationships and divine accountability. It teaches that honouring parents is not optional, it is a duty with eternal consequences.

The sayings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) further reinforce this truth. The Prophet said:

“Paradise lies under the feet of mothers,”
and in another narration,
“The pleasure of Allah lies in the pleasure of the parents.”

These teachings clearly affirm that anyone who consistently honours their parents will find success, ease and divine guidance in their affairs. It is therefore fitting to say that Governor Sule, by upholding this noble virtue, is positioning himself for continuous fortune, both in this world and in the Hereafter.

Indeed, the blessings (Du’a) of parents are among the most powerful forces in a believer’s life. A leader who enjoys the sincere prayers of his parents is one whose path is illuminated by divine light. Such a person, by Allah’s grace, will experience clarity in decision-making, strength in leadership and success in service to humanity.

It is also noteworthy that beyond emotional respect, His Excellency, Governor A A Sule has ensured the well-being of his parents by providing them with befitting accommodation and all necessities of life. This aligns perfectly with Islamic teachings, which emphasize not only respect in words but also care in action.

In conclusion, Governor A. A. Sule’s example serves as a powerful reminder that true greatness is rooted in humility, gratitude and obedience to divine commandments. As long as he continues on this noble path, honouring his parents, seeking their prayers and fulfilling his duties, he will, by the grace of Almighty Allah, continue to witness light instead of darkness, success instead of failure and fulfilment in both worlds.

May Allah preserve his parents, accept his good deeds and continue to guide him in leadership and service to humanity.
