As Nasarawa State steadily approaches the defining moment of the 2027 governorship race, a historic and strategic meeting has been scheduled by Governor A. A. Sule with all APC governorship aspirants on 29th March 2026 in Abuja. This meeting is not just routine; it is pivotal. It is expected to formally inform all APC aspirants of the zoning arrangement and, more importantly, the Governor’s preferred direction and possible support for a particular candidate, as well as the broader direction of APC leadership in the state. Indeed, the support of A. A. Sule is often synonymous with the party’s position.
For some time now, the issue of zoning has not been ambiguous. The Governor has, in several fora, clearly indicated that the Western Senatorial Zone is positioned to produce the next governor of Nasarawa State. By this pronouncement, the Northern and Southern zones, though integral to the state’s political fabric, are for now expected to support the collective decision of the party in the interest of equity, balance and continuity.
With this arrangement, the contest narrows significantly. Aspirants from the Western Zone now carry the responsibility not only of contesting but also of proving their capacity, acceptability and readiness to lead. The question, therefore, becomes inevitable and pressing: metaphorically, who truly fits the cap?
Among the array of aspirants, one name stands out with compelling clarity – Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.
Senator Wadada is not a newcomer to leadership or public service. His political journey reflects experience, competence and credibility. He has demonstrated legislative excellence, people-oriented representation and an unwavering commitment to development.
Beyond his impressive track record, Senator Wadada possesses three critical attributes that Nasarawa State urgently needs at this stage of its development: grassroots connection, statewide acceptability and national relevance and network. In today’s governance, connections matter. His strong national presence positions him to attract investments, partnerships and federal support that can accelerate development in Nasarawa State.
At a time when the state seeks continuity in development, economic expansion, and political stability, it is essential to choose a candidate who not only understands governance but also has the capacity to deliver results effectively and efficiently.
Therefore, this is a sincere call to Governor A. A. Sule to align his decision with competence, shared vision, and developmental synergy by supporting Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the APC flag bearer for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
To other aspirants who may not emerge as the party’s candidate, this moment calls for faith, humility, and unity. The Government House along Muhammadu Buhari Way can only be occupied by one person at a time. I therefore remind them of this divine injunction: leadership and authority ultimately come from Allah alone. As the Qur’an reminds us:
“Say: O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will; You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is all good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.” (Al-Imrana, Qur’an 3:26)
And also:
“Allah is the One who has made you successors upon the earth and has raised some of you above others in degrees, that He may try you through what He has given you.” (An’am, Qur’an 6:165)
Furthermore, the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) reminded us of the weight of leadership and responsibility when he said:
“Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock.” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)
This Hadith underscores that leadership is not merely a position of honor, but a trust (Amanah) that demands accountability, justice and sincere service to the people.
These divine and prophetic teachings serve as powerful reminders that while human beings may plan, aspire and compete, it is ultimately Allah who grants authority and He entrusts it only to those who will be accountable for it.
As members of one political family, the APC must prioritize unity over division and collective progress over personal ambition. The future of Nasarawa State depends on our ability to rally behind a credible and capable leader.
In this defining moment, let wisdom prevail, let unity guide our actions and let the right choice emerge.
As the Hausa proverb wisely says: “Kada a yi kitsu da kwarkwata”- one must be careful not to mix what is valuable with what diminishes it. In essence, the process of choosing leadership must be guided by discernment, ensuring that merit, integrity and competence are not compromised.
Indeed, when the cap is presented, only the truly deserving can wear it – and Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada fits it perfectly.
