Nasarawa State Government Blasts Peoples Gazette Over ‘Secret Mecca Meeting’ Claim with Atiku Abubakar

By Our Reporter

The Nasarawa State Government has dismissed as “false and fabricated” a report by Peoples Gazette alleging that Governor Abdullahi A. Sule secretly met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Saudi Arabia to discuss plans to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election.
In a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, the government described the report as “a complete fabrication” and “fiction dressed as journalism.”
The statement acknowledged that Sule recently traveled to Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj but firmly denied any meeting with Atiku or his associates. “At no point during his stay did Governor Sule meet with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or anyone close to him,” the statement said, adding that the governor was not even aware of Atiku’s presence in the country.
It also refuted claims of a “two-hour dinner” at the Conrad Jabal Omar Hotel, insisting that no such engagement or agreement took place, including any alleged pledge of financial support.
The government further cited comments attributed to Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, who reportedly said he was unaware of any such meeting, as additional evidence undermining the Gazette’s report.
According to the statement, the timing of the publication raises questions about its intent. It noted that just days earlier, Sule publicly reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu by seconding a motion endorsing him as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
“Governor Sule has consistently and publicly used every available platform to affirm his unshakeable support for the president,” the statement further noted.
The government alleged that the report was part of a broader attempt by unnamed political actors to create discord between the governor and the president ahead of the 2027 elections.
It urged the public to disregard the story and called on Peoples Gazette to retract the report and issue an apology, stressing the need for responsible journalism and verification of claims before publication.
“Governor Sule remains committed to the APC, committed to President Tinubu and the people of Nasarawa State,” the statement concluded.
