I’ll Still Pick My Preferred Zone, Aspirant- Abdullahi Sule

Governor Abdullahi Sule has declared that his commitment to transparency in the 2027 governorship primary process will not prevent him from openly stating his preferred zone and aspirant, as he moves to foster unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State.
Speaking at a meeting with APC governorship aspirants held at the Governors Lodge in Abuja on Sunday, Sule emphasized that while the process would be collective and inclusive, he would not shy away from expressing his personal position.
“This is the beginning of showing you how transparent and sincere I am… That will not stop me from saying this is the zone I prefer. Those who want to listen to me can follow. Those who don’t want to listen can do otherwise,” he said.
The meeting, which came shortly after the party’s national convention, brought together declared aspirants as well as key stakeholders, including former governors Abdullahi Adamu and Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
Governor Sule reiterated his commitment to party unity and a peaceful primary process ahead of the 2027 general elections. He told the aspirants that the choice between direct primaries and a consensus arrangement would be made collectively, stressing that he would abide by whatever decision the party adopts.
According to him, no single aspirant possesses the strength to win an election alone, recalling how unity among party members contributed to victory in the 2019 governorship election.
The governor also reaffirmed zoning as a long-standing tradition in the state’s political arrangement since 2007, noting that it had guided leadership succession through previous administrations, including those of Adamu and Al-Makura, and ultimately his own emergence.
While indicating his preference for a particular zone, Sule maintained that aspirants from other zones were free to contest, underscoring the importance of inclusiveness.
He commended the aspirants for their contributions to the party’s e-registration exercise, which saw Nasarawa rank among the top 12 states nationwide despite its relatively small population. He also praised the peaceful conduct of ward, local government, zonal, and state congresses.
Addressing concerns over the exclusion of some aspirants from the initial invitation list, the governor explained that only those who had formally registered their interest were captured. He, however, extended invitations to others, stressing that no one should be left out of the process.
Sule further reminded aspirants of other electoral opportunities within the state, including senatorial, House of Representatives, and state assembly seats, urging those who may not secure the governorship ticket to remain engaged in the party’s broader electoral ambitions.
He concluded with a warning against internal divisions, stating that disunity within the APC would ultimately harm the state more than any individual, while reaffirming that his primary goal remains the party’s overall success in 2027.
