Barr. Lamus Supporters Demand Defection Over ‘Imposed’ Candidacy

By Our Reporter

A political support group backing Barr. Usman Lamus has called on him to immediately leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what it described as an unfair and undemocratic endorsement process within the party.
In a statement released on Sunday, the group expressed “utmost dismay” over a viral video in which Hon. Kadiya, chairman of Wamba West electoral ward, reportedly said that the ward executive committee had endorsed Hon. Ezekiel Manding as the sole APC candidate for the Wamba constituency seat in the 2027 State House of Assembly election.
According to the group, Kadiya further stated that any party member dissatisfied with the decision was free to leave the APC. The supporters described the remarks as “callous, unfair, and undemocratic,” arguing that they effectively shut out other aspirants, including Lamus, from participating in a credible primary process.
The statement characterized the endorsement as a “technical knockout” against Lamus, who is also vying for the same seat under the APC. It added that the situation signals a lack of a level playing field and serves as a warning to Lamus about the consequences of challenging the endorsed candidate within the party.
“It is even clearer that there is no level playing ground for Barr. Usman Lamus’ aspiration under the APC,” the group said.
Invoking its slogan, “ba cuta, ba cutarwa” (do not cause harm and do not allow harm), the group urged Lamus to take decisive action by leaving the party without delay.
“A stitch in time saves nine,” the statement concluded.
Efforts to reach the ward leadership and the endorsed candidate for comments were not immediately successful at the time of filing this report.
