Al-makura did not bribe us to approve sale of Nasarawa assets—NSHA

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has denied allegation of graft in its recent resolution approving sale of the state landed properties in Lagos, Kaduna and Jos.

Nasarawa Eye Newspaper confronted Hon. Abubakar Imam Zanwa, the House committee chairman on Judiciary with the rumour being bandied about.

Specifically we asked him “Sir it is being alleged the reason why state House of Assembly unanimously passed governor Al-makura’s recent request to dispose Nasarawa state assets in some parts of the country qwas because the state Assembly was promised 40 percent of the proceeds from the sale”

Visibly angered by the allegation, Hon. Zanwa answered “I do not know where this information is come from but if that is people are saying it is pathetic lie.

He said that lawmakers owed it a duty to be fair to Nasarawa state in the discharge of their responsibilities, adding that their task is to develop the state, not to drag it backward.

Besides, Hon Zanwa gave a catalogue of reasons why Nasarawa state is better off selling the assets. According to him the state government was spending huge sums of money maintaining and paying ground rents on the building most of which are in a dilapidated state,

“I can say without any iota of contradiction that the properties in question are a burden on the state, eating into our meager resources”

He argued that rather than spending large sums on them without any kobo coming into government coffers it was better to sell them off and use the proceeds to develop the state accordingly.

Regarding the Lagos property that generating lots of controversy, the lawmaker revealed that the property was leased to one individual explaining that the lease agreement was lopsided to the disadvantaged of the state.
