Gov Sule And His Harvest Of Awards

BY RAYYANU BALA
Barely two month or so ago, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa state,
Engineer Abdullahi Alhaji Sule, was honoured and decorated with the
prestigious Democracy Heroes Award as “Most Promising Governor of the
year 2019”. Governor Sule was honoured along other distinguished
personalities including, FCT Minister of State, Dr. Hajiya Ramatu
Tijjani, former FIRS Chairman Dr. Babatunde Fowler, Kwara state First
Lady amongst others. The occasion which was attended by the crème- de
la- crème in Nigeria and outside, attracted lots of attention
especially here in Nasarawa state for single reason that our Governor
Engr Abdullahi Sule within his short period of stay as governor could
beat other 35 governors to emerged “Most Promising Governor of the
year 2019” Also within same range of time, he (Sule) again defeated
his other colleagues and bagged “Best ICT Governor of the year”
Similarly he also thrashed them to became “ The Best Governor On
Health Sector Development In Nigeria” These three most prestigious
awards, all within six months in office, calls for celebration by all
well-meaning citizens of Nasarawa state.
Of-course, to us in Nasarawa state the emergence of Engr Sule as the
“Most Promising Governor of Year 2019” “Best ICT Governor of the year”
and “The Best Governor On Health Sector Development In Nigeria” was
not surprising especially when view against the background of what he
has done so far to the people of Nasarawa state within this short
time.
It was on record, Governor Sule came into office solely to offer
nothing but services to the people as against some who views public
office as an opportunity to amass wealth to the detriment of the
people. When Governor Sule was on consultation tour to some prominent
individuals and stakeholders in the state, prior to formal lifting of
banned on campaigns by INEC, he told the people of the Nasarawa state
categorically clear on the motives that engineered him to aspire for
the office of the governor of Nasarawa state. At the palace of Emir of
Lafia late Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 for example, he did mentioned that his
desire to become the governor of Nasarawa state was borne not out of
desire to amass wealth but to serve the people of the state. He went
on to say that if it were for monetary benefits, he would not have
ventured into partisan politics let alone seeks for the elective
office of governor. What he told the late Emir of Lafia constitutes
the central message of his campaign up to the end. Even recently at
the closing ceremony of the 23rd National quranic Recitation
competition held in Lafia, Governor Sule again re-emphasized his total
disdain for stealing of public funds when he averred that “Any person
elected as governor and is found to be stealing public funds requires
deliverance from God” He further noted that “Governors are well
provided for by virtue of the public office they occupy thus, only
diabolic person will resort to stealing”
And based strictly on his belief that only diabolic person will resort
to stealing when elected as governor, Governor Sule since he mounts
the saddle of leadership of Nasarawa state, all his energies were
being dissipating on how to improve on the living standard of the
people of the state, as against his personal comfort and interest. He
is always on the move; moving from pillar to post, trying all his
possible best to see how he can impact positively on the lives of the
people.
To further demonstrates his concern and commitment towards moving the
state forward, Governor Sule was in fact quoted as appealing to the
opposition parties in the state to join hands with him so as to lift
the state up, believing that responsibilities of moving the state
forward rest in the hands of all political, religious and traditional
leaders in the state.
During a congratulatory visit to him by the 13 Local Government
Council Chairmen, over his judicial victory at the Election Partition
Tribunal, Appeal Court and Supreme Court, governor Sule demonstrates
his concern for the state when he disclosed to the gathering that he
had personally sent a message to the candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) Hon David Umbugadu inviting him to join hands
with him in order to move the state forward.
At the same gathering of Chairmen of Local Government Councils,
Governor Sule also acknowledged that since his assumption of office he
has been working round the clock to see that the state is placed on
the path of development, peace and progress through on going
discussions with various development partners so as to reassert
Nasarawa state in the scheme of things globally.
Yes, Governor Sule deserves all the awards he has been honoured with.
As Most Promising Governor of the year, Governor Sule has showed to
the world that he is not only a man of his words, when it comes to
issues bothering on accountability, but he has also intensely shows to
the people that he is an accomplished gentleman who put the interest
of the people over and above his personal interest and considerations.
As the Best ICT Governor, Governor Sule has demonstrated thus far that
he is not an analogue brand. As ICT compliant, Governor Sule within
his six months in office, transformed Nasarawa state into technology
and innovation destination by creating five ICT innovation Hubs in
five Local Government Councils across the three Senatorial zones. This
is besides his efforts in drafting an ICT policy in the state in
collaboration with NITDA. Indeed, his wide spread connections to those
that matters in the business/ICT world singled him out as shining
example, couple also with his desire for private sector driven reforms
in the state through ICT.
Also as Best Governor on Health Sector Development, Governor Sule has,
within these few months, displayed a rare courage in pursuing
vigorously, health care delivery to the people. Governor Sule has
added lots of values to our health care services in such a way that
today we in Nasarawa state have the highest number of Primary Health
Centers in the country with over seven hundred PHCs spread across the
three Senatorial districts.
Indeed, from what we have seen clearly in the last seven months of
Engineer Abdullahi Sule’s administration, all the accolades being
shower on him from wide and near and all honours and awards bestowed
on him can not be enough to say the least.
