Information Commissioner Urges MDA’s In Nasarawa To Accept Information Officers

The Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Information Culture and
Tourism in Nasarawa state, Comrade Dogo Shamma has called on the
Commissioners, Heads of government Agencies and Parastatals in the
state to accept the information officers posted in their respective
ministries and agencies in order to report the activities of
government.
He said the ministry of information, culture and tourism was the
engine room, where information about the programmes and policies of
government were kept for future references, hence the need to give
information Officers free hands to source and disseminate information
about government activities.
The Commissioner who made the call in his office during the courtesy
call by the members of Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ Information
chapel, noted that, the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule has
as its core values, transparency, accountability and fear of God, to
this end he said, the ministry was saddle with the responsibility in
projecting good image of government to outside world.
He said that, the ministry of information is a hub where any
information related to government activities were being stored and
charged information officers to be deployed to various ministries and
agencies to cover the activities of government honestly and strictly
on professionalism.
Dogo Shamma urged the members of information chapel and Journalists in
the state to report the activities of government in the state in line
with ethical values, noting that, Governor Abdullahi Sule has done so
much to Journalists in Nasarawa state, especially in appointing one of
their own to serve in his cabinet.
He reaffirmed his commitment to providing modern working tools to the
ministry for effective service delivery, and called on the information
officers and other staff in the ministry to redouble their efforts
towards their duties.
The commissioner however, called on the practicing Journalists in the
state to endeavour to register for NUJ national identical card to
avoid any challenges that they might encounter in the course of their
duties.
Earlier, the chairman of NUJ, Information chapel, Comrade Ibrahim
Dauda commended the Governor Abdullahi Sule for appointed Dogo Shamma
who he said was a professional Journalist to pilot the affairs of the
ministry, adding that, the posting of commissioner to the ministry
would go a long way in repositioning the ministry.
Comrade Dauda highlighted some of the challenges bedeviling the
ministry to include office accommodation and computers among others,
which the commissioner promised to look into them.
