An Association of persons living with disabilities under the auspices of Nasarawa State APC Disabled Group thanked Sen. Al-Makura for prominent role he played in Establishment Of Disabilities Commission by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking while on a visit to Sen Al-makura in his House in Lafia yesterday, Saleh Barde Keana and Muazu Dahiru, who spoke separately on behalf of the group commended Senator Al-Makura for his tireless role throughout the struggle for the actualisation of the establishment of Disabilities Commission in Nigeria. The speakers who couldn’t hide their joys on the milestone recorded thanked Sen. Al-Makura for always standing by them. The speakers prayed God to always bless and guide Sen. Al-Makura on every step he takes in his life.
In his response, Sen. Umaru Tanko Al-makura stressed that the approval of the composition of the Governing Council and appointment of Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, was in line with the provisions of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 by President Mohammadu Buhari.
According to him, the approval was a clear testimony that the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari has commenced full implementation of the Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 also known as the National Disability Act.
Sen. Al-Makura therefore thanked President Buhari for taking this bold step in the implementation of this Act through the approval of the composition of the leadership of the Commission.
On his part, Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi A Sule on Disabled Matters, Hon. Hamza Mamman Awe, appreciated Sen. Al-Makura for bringing some of them to limelight and giving them the necessary supports at all times. He said the disabled persons in Nigeria will forever remain indebted to Sen Umaru Tanko Al-makura.
