Gov Sule Warns Against Scuttling APC Registration/Revalidation Exercise
Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has warned both elected and appointed party and government officials, against act capable of scuttling the about to commence registration and revalidation of members by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Engineer Sule handed down the warning during the APC stakeholders meeting with members of the National APC registration and revalidation committee, at the Government House, on Monday.
Specifically, the Governor warned that he would not hesitate to change any official found to be constituting himself into a hindrance, denying people the opportunity to register as members of the party.
Engineer Sule cautioned against any move to hijack the registration and revalidation exercise by vested interests, stressing that anybody coming out to register must be allowed to participate in the exercise.
The Governor pointed out the registration and revalidation exercise is providing a golden opportunity for Nasarawa State to prove the assertion that it is the second home of President Muhammadu Buhari, derived since the era of the defunct CPC, by turning out enmasse to register as members of the APC.
“There are lots of people in this state that want to register. If we find out that anyone has become a hindrance, rather than a solution, we will not hesitate to change those people,” he stated.
According to the Governor, as far as his administration is concerned, nobody is interested in hijacking the registration exercise but that everyone should join hands to work towards strengthening the party.
He warned officials against denying people from registering for selfish reasons.
Engineer Sule emphasized that Commissioners, Special Advisers, local government Chairmen and LG chairmen of the party, will jointly supervise the exercise at the councils, urging officials not to engage in power play that could hinder the exercise.
The Governor further urged the officials to show effective leadership by mobilizing people to come out and register.
“Everybody is a mobilizer. The more you are able to mobilize and strengthen our party, the more we see you as the real leader of the party,” he stated.
While appealing to them to give maximum support to the members of the national committee working in the state, Engineer Sule however drew the attention of officials on the need to call their supporters, particularly the youths, to order.
Earlier, in an opening remarks, Chairman of the APC National Committee supervising the registration and revalidation exercise, Isiaku Tanko Amao, said they were in the state to work with various stakeholders, towards making sure the exercise is successful.
Amao noted that the exercise became necessary because a gap has been created in the party because of some reasons which include, that some members of the party have died, many may have left the party, as well as that some young people have attained voting age and now want to belong to political parties.
“Some other members of political parties are ready to join our party,” he added.
Amao then assured the Governor of the committee’s commitment, sincerity and transparency while conducting the exercise, promising to work for Nasarawa State and to take the APC to a new level.
