Lafia Residents Stage Demonstration Against Electricity Migration To Band A Without Commensurate Supply

Lafia residents in the early hours of Thursday staged a demonstration protesting migration of Lafia and environs to Band A Without Commensurate Supply of electricity of 20 hours and above as spelt out by Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) The demonstrators who carried placards reading “We say no to crazy billing, No light No pay, ” We don’t enjoy light for more than 5 hours, how can we pay N20,000. among others, explained that what AEDC are doing in Lafia was nothing but daylight robbery. ” You can not just migrate us to Band A Without supplying 20 hours of electricity. In an interview with Nasarawa Eye, a demonstrator who simply gave his name as Gambo Mohammad

described the activity of  Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in Lafia as exploitative, calling for urgent action from government to halt this exploitative tendency of AEDC.

He accused Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) of migrating consumers in Lafia to higher tariff band A while, there was no commensurate supply of the electricity.

Gambo Mohammad who said any electricity consumer on Band A is, by law, supposed to enjoy electricity for 20 hours and above in a day, however regretted that in Lafia and environs despite migrating consumers to Band A there was no supply of the electricity up to 7 hours in a day.

While also accusing Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Lafia office and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) of conniving with AEDC to defraud electricity consumers in Lafia, Gambo Mohammad also appealed to leaders to intervene in the interest of peace.

“We are not against tariff hike, but we should get the supply of the electricity in consonance with what the law says on consumers on Band A”. The demonstrators who march through the streets of Lafia went to government house to present thier letter of protest to the Governor Abdullahi Sule and later went to AEDC main office in Lafia along Makurdi to register their protest against migration to Band A.
