Nasarawa Police Set To Prosecute Political Thugs

The Nasarawa state police command is to prosecute political thugs that were arrested on eve of the March 18 Governorship and House of Assembly election. Numbering 17 in total, the thugs have been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the state capital, Lafia for investigations and would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation, according to the Police.

Presenting a report of the command’s achievements in recent times, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Baba, speaking through its spokesman, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Rahman Nansel revealed that military personnel on patrol duty in Umaisha, Toto local government area intercepted two vehicles filled with political thugs. He added that the thugs were 17 in number from the federal capital territory, Nasarawa and Imo states and that the security operatives recovered from them, two English pump action guns, nine locally fabricated guns, 25 live cartridges, 24 handsets of different brands, 15 pairs of desert boots, a bag that contained belt, bullet proof jackets, etc.

Commissioner of Police Baba also stated that on March 15, two armed robbery suspects that had been on the command’s wanted list were apprehended in their hide out at Angwan Police, Masaka, following credible information. He gave the names of the suspects as Isaac David aged 20 years and 22-year-old Glean Kennedy, from whom were recovered, a locally fabricated Berretta pistol. He said that the suspects confessed to having carried out many armed robbery operations with Masaka and environs when cross-examined.

Speaking on a case of conspiracy and attempt to commit culpable homicide, the Nasarawa state Police Commissioner narrated: “On 11/03/2023 at about 1740 hours, a complaint was lodged at Toto Division that a gang of two men armed with dangerous weapons were sighted attempting to kill one Ali Misalam of Toto local government area… Police operatives attached to Toto Division swiftly raced to the scene where the duo of Peche Misalam and Promise Jacob were arrested. One locally made gun, one pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspects as exhibit”.

He continued: “Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to have conspired in order to kill the victim because he allegedly initiated their mother into witchcraft before nemesis caught up with them. Suspects will be charged to court for persecution upon conclusion of investigation”.

The police Command reiterated its commitment in the fight against criminals in Nasarawa state.
