TPL Yakubu Ashuku Appeals To Land Area Officers To Step Up Action On Revenue Generation

The recent maiden toured of all area offices of the ministry of Lands and urban development by the permanent secretary TPL. Rabiu Yakubu Ashuku and the management staff were to assess the area offices performance in revenue generation, their problems and achievement recorded so far. The visit was also to get first hand information that will help the ministry develop framework that will enhance revenue drive.

During the visit the management observed with dismayed the abysmal performance of area offices in revenue generation. The permanent secretary TPL.Ashuku charged the area officers and other staff to step up action in generating revenue for government by partnering with stakeholders in land administration like the traditional rulers, local government chairmen and development areas, and land dealers because they play a vital roles in land acquisition, issuance of change of ownership and other land related issues.

He said the ministry has produced radio jingle that will create awareness on the need for people to register and obtain their land and property title. The PS appealed to the area officers to show more commitment and collaboration in their work.

At Karu area office , the management had a robust discussion with representative of Nasarawa Geography information service (NAGIS) and area office staff , the permanent secretary sort for sustain good working relationship between the two government organization for effective service deliveries to the public.

Responding, Karu area officer TPL Okah Bako apart from congratulating the PS on his appointment, promised to give maximum and cooperation to the management and that they would work hard to promote and sustain human and physical development in the state.

He explained that there is cordial working relationship with NAGIS staff and the working relationship has resulted to fast and safe service deliveries to the general public.

The area officers of Akwanga, keffi and Nasarawa, Ashims, Moses and Yahaya appealed to the Management of the ministry to look into the plight of area offices that include, lack of functional vehicles, security, lack of enough staff among others.

The four area offices except Karu need good office accommodations , the structure that housed Akwanga, keffi and Nasarawa area offices are in dilapidated condition. The poor state of area offices no doubt could lead to boredom and frustration among the staff. The floor of all the area offices are broken, the walls are dilapidated and no Perimeter fence .

At Nasarawa area office, miscreants have taken over some offices, they used the place to smoke and take illicit drugs thereby posing serious security thread to the staff of the area office. In some area offices files have been drenched by the rain, the buildings need urgent repairs to safeguard documents and other office facilities. All the area offices need functional vehicles for the workers to effectively perform their duties.

No doubt good office accommodations should be provided in other to properly manage information, records, property and people, good office accommodations can create sound working environment and bring about efficiency for both the staff people outside.

The visit of the PS and management staff to all area offices gave them first hand knowledge of the problems of area offices and how they can seek ways to solve the problems.
