Hardship: How Musa Yashi Made Ramadan Easier For Needy Muslims

BY GAMBO HAMZA                                             Musa Yashi may not need any introduction except for those people who may be knowing him for the first time. Beyond his home State of Bauchi and across the entire North East region, he is a popular and household name whose personality is defined by compassion and desire to touch the lives of ordinary people especially the downtrodden and less privileged members of Society.

Year in year out, Mal Musa Umar Yashi, the indefatigable Executive Director Humanitarian Affairs of the North East Development Commission, NEDC, has carved a niche for himself as a beacon of hope, champion of the masses, a devote Muslim, God fearing and caring leader always willing and eager to change the lives of people for the better.

He cares much about his people by creating an enabling environment where everyone feels valued, supported and appreciated one way or the other and his humanitarian assistance knows no bound.

One of these avenues of support is the annual Ramadan fast which is one of the pillars of Islam and a compulsory religious act upon all Muslims.

In the spirit of the Ramadan season, Mallam Musa Yashi, once again showed his mark and was on hand to do what he knows best; extending hands of support and assistance to needy people irrespective of where they come from.

Indeed, there is no better time to support and assist the needy than this period of hardship confronting most Nigerians who find it difficult to feed due to the economic situation in the country.

Therefore, the annual Yashi Ramadan palliative package came in handy for most families and households. As at the last count, numerous Support Groups in Bauchi alone, have benefitted from Mal Yashi’s benevolence and generosity not talk of other needy groups in other parts of the Country.

During my recent visit to Bauchi, I witnessed what could be described as Mal Yashi’s endless love and affection by the people as he turned every nook and cranny of the town into a distribution centre of palliative items meant to cushion the effect of the Ramadan fast on people.

Many people and families were supported with such basic needs such as rice, sugar, spaghetti and groundnut oil. This act of magnanimity, has further endeared him to the people who now regard him as their true and natural leader always eager to attend to their needs.

All I could hear from people were exaltations, praises and commendations for Mal Yashi’s humanitarian gesture during the holy month.

One of the beneficiaries and a stakeholder in Bauchi, Yazid Inuwa MK described Mal Yashi as an all round kindhearted and compassionate man with empathy for the less privileged in our country, Nigeria, regardless of one’s tribal or religious identity complex

While praying Allah to reward him for his humanitarian assistance, he equally charged political leaders in the region to emulate his examplary leadership qualities and attributes which centred on human development.

A woman leader and chieftain of the APC, Hajiya Aisha Usman Wanka was full of praises for the donation noting that any act of charity and feeding of the poor attracts abundant blessings and reward from Allah.

She thanked Mal Yashi for his consistent support over the years.

Another stakeholder, Haruna Ibrahim, says as God chosen leader, Mal Yashi has never failed the people but continued to strive harder impacting positively on the lives of the people and urged him to continue.

Mal Yashi, a visionary leader and a man integrity and humility, is genuinely and passionately loved by the people within and outside his community and this cuts across all ethnic and religious groups.

For him, the welfare and well being of the people is uppermost on his mind and it is not negotiable no matter the circumstances.
