Gov. Sule Charges Indigenous Pay TV Service Provider On Promotion Of Nigerian Culture

Governor Abdullahi Sule has charged newly launched Luft PayTV, an indigenous pay television service provider, to promote Nigerian culture, especially now that the country is undoing economic reforms.

Governor Sule laid the charge while delivering a goodwill message at the official launch and unveiling of the Luft PayTV in Abuja on Sunday.

According to the Governor, media is content and as such Luft PayTV should focus on contents that would highlight what makes Nigeria unique.

“The content that is coming from Luft PayTV has to focus on news, on our youths, sports, documentary, our history and more importantly, the culture of our own people. If you continue to promote the culture at a period like this, this is the time that Nigeria needs it,” he said.

He welcomed the idea of pay-as-you-go that would enable Nigerians to pay for only what they watch on television instead of what obtains now where Nigerians are made to pay for monthly subscription.

“My understanding of pay TV is similar to the story of MTN and Globacom in this country. When MTN started, they said there was no per second call, it was only per minute. But in your case, the moment Globacom came we started paying by the second. Today, my understanding of pay TV is a situation where you pay for only what you want. In a day I can decide that I watch TV only between a certain time to a certain time. That is how I understood it from where I used to access pay TV,” he stated.

He commended the versatility of the Chairman of Luft PayTV, Dr. Bright Echefu, for his vision to set up this new company that is coming at a time Nigeria needs indigenous pay TV services to showcase the country’s uniqueness.

“I thought your expertise is in the area of security but today, I am seeing you with a different work altogether. That shows how versatile you happen to be. I have come to know you as a focused individual with great mind. I strongly believe that Luft PayTV has come at a time that Nigeria needs it the most,” he added.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Bright Echefu, Chairman, Luft PayTV said his company is built on cutting-edge technology that would deliver crystal clear HD quality, flexibility to watch on multiple devices and a subscription plan that is currently the most affordable compared to other existing pay TVs.

“Our entertainment is on your own terms, anytime, anywhere. We believe that the future of television should reflect the diversity, creativity and innovations of Nigeria. That is why Luft Pay TV is committed to supporting local content and local talents, as well as showcasing Nigerian stories that resonate with all of us,” he stated.

Dr. Echefu said Luft PayTV, designed with the Nigerian viewer in mind, promises to bring the finest entertainment to Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang also attended the event, amongst other top dignitaries.
