Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, has arrived in Luanda, the capital of Angola, for a high-level series of bilateral trade and development meetings.

The arrival of Governor Sule in Luanda marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria-Angola relations, particularly at the state-to-region level. He was warmly received at the Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport by the Angolan Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Dr. Jose Bamoquina Zau, along with an entourage of dignitaries and senior Angolan government officials.

This visit, the first of its kind by a sitting Nigerian state governor to Angola in recent years, is part of Governor Sule’s broader agenda to internationalize Nasarawa’s economic prospects, attract foreign direct investment, and explore strategic development partnerships across Africa.

At the heart of the Governor’s mission is the Nigeria-Angola Joint Development Commission (JDC) meetings—a platform designed to foster stronger ties in trade, energy, agriculture, education, and infrastructural development between the two nations. Governor Sule is expected to play a prominent role in these discussions, bringing the voice of Nigerian sub-national leadership to the continental dialogue on cooperation and shared prosperity.

Beyond the JDC, Governor Sule is also scheduled to meet with leading Angolan investors and private sector stakeholders with the aim of showcasing Nasarawa State’s vast investment potential in sectors such as solid minerals, agriculture, and green energy. Nasarawa, often described as Nigeria’s “Home of Solid Minerals,” has witnessed increased investment interest in recent years, thanks in part to the Governor’s proactive economic diplomacy.

In a highly anticipated engagement, Governor Sule will hold bilateral talks with the Governor of Angola’s Bengo Region. The meeting is aimed at exploring regional collaborations that could lead to exchange programmes, knowledge sharing, and joint projects in areas ranging from agribusiness and vocational training to infrastructure and cultural tourism.

Observers note that the Governor’s visit comes at a time when African leaders are increasingly recognizing the importance of sub-national partnerships in advancing the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
