Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu has defended his defection from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a strategic decision aimed at achieving broader developmental goals.
Speaking on Daybreak Live on ARISE TV with Gbenga Ashiru, Wadada said his political choices have consistently been guided by the need to align with platforms capable of delivering tangible results. He maintained that the switch reflects a commitment to effective governance rather than personal ambition.
The senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, also addressed pressing national economic issues, highlighting the impact of inflation and the rising cost of living on Nigerians. He called for better coordination of fiscal policies and stronger institutional accountability to stabilize the economy and promote sustainable growth.
On his reported endorsement by Abdullahi A. Sule as a preferred successor in the 2027 governorship race in Nasarawa State, Wadada described the development as a vote of confidence in his leadership and track record in public service.
He further underscored his political influence, noting that during his time in the SDP, he played a key role in the election of two senators, two members of the House of Representatives, and three members of the State House of Assembly—an indication of his grassroots reach and organizational strength.
Addressing security concerns in Nasarawa State, Wadada assured that practical and actionable strategies are being developed to tackle existing challenges, with a focus on ensuring long-term stability.
He also emphasized the need for unity among political stakeholders, pledging to engage other aspirants through dialogue and consensus-building in the overall interest of the state.
The interview comes amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections.
