The recent article titled “Why Nasarawa State Needs Former IGP Adamu, Not Sen. Wadada” by Abubakar Musa Ramalan presents an opinion that deserves respect in a democratic society. However, while attempting to elevate former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, the writer unfairly diminishes the towering political profile, grassroots relevance, and proven public service record of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.
No serious political analysis of Nasarawa State’s future can be complete without acknowledging the remarkable political journey and achievements of Senator Wadada, a man whose rise in politics was not facilitated by appointments or bureaucratic privilege but earned through direct engagement with the people.
Unlike many politicians whose influence is confined to political offices, Senator Wadada has consistently demonstrated electoral strength and public acceptance. From his service in the House of Representatives to his current position in the Senate, he has repeatedly earned the trust of the electorate through the ballot box.
His political relevance has endured because it is rooted in performance, accessibility, and responsiveness to the needs of ordinary citizens. His political career reflects a deep understanding of governance, legislation, and public administration—qualities essential for leading a complex and diverse state like Nasarawa.
One of Senator Wadada’s greatest strengths is his unparalleled connection with the grassroots. Across villages, wards, local governments, and communities in Nasarawa State, his name resonates not because of political propaganda but because of his visible presence in the lives of the people.
For years, he has remained accessible to farmers, traders, students, artisans, traditional institutions, and community leaders. His political structure is not built around elite circles but around ordinary citizens who have benefited directly from his interventions.
A leader’s popularity should not be measured by titles previously held but by the confidence people place in him. On this score, Senator Wadada remains one of the most influential political figures in Nasarawa State today.
In an era where unemployment and economic hardship continue to challenge young people and women, Senator Wadada has consistently invested in human capital development.
Through scholarship schemes, vocational training programmes, business support initiatives, educational assistance, and empowerment programmes, thousands of youths and women have received opportunities to improve their lives.
Many beneficiaries across the state can testify to receiving support for education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and small-scale businesses. These interventions have not only improved livelihoods but have also contributed to social stability and economic growth.
Empowerment is not merely about distributing items during campaigns; it is about creating opportunities that transform lives. Senator Wadada’s record in this regard speaks for itself.
The article attempts to portray political loyalty as a deficiency. On the contrary, loyalty remains one of the most important virtues in leadership.
Throughout his political career, Senator Wadada has demonstrated commitment to political ideals, respect for party structures, and dedication to democratic processes. In a political environment often characterized by opportunism and frequent defections, consistency and loyalty should be celebrated rather than criticized.
Strong institutions are built by individuals who respect due process and remain committed to collective political objectives.
Beyond legislative responsibilities, Senator Wadada has contributed significantly to community development through support for educational institutions, healthcare interventions, rural infrastructure projects, and humanitarian assistance.
His interventions in roads, schools, healthcare facilities, water projects, and community support programmes have positively impacted numerous communities across Nasarawa State.
These developmental efforts demonstrate a practical understanding of governance and the everyday needs of citizens.
There is no doubt that former IGP Mohammed Adamu served Nigeria with distinction in law enforcement and deserves recognition for his contributions to national security.
However, governance requires more than administrative experience. It requires political skill, coalition-building, legislative understanding, grassroots mobilization, stakeholder management, and the ability to connect government policies with the aspirations of the people.
These are areas where Senator Wadada possesses extensive experience gained over decades of active political participation and public service.
As Nasarawa State looks toward the future, the debate should not be reduced to a comparison between loyalty and competence. The real question is who possesses the combination of political experience, grassroots acceptance, legislative knowledge, developmental vision, and people-oriented leadership required to move the state forward.
Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada has demonstrated these qualities repeatedly through elections won, people empowered, communities developed, and institutions strengthened.
His political journey is a testament to resilience, service, and unwavering commitment to the people of Nasarawa State.
Rather than being dismissed as a beneficiary of loyalty, Senator Wadada should be recognized as one of the state’s most accomplished political leaders—a bridge between the aspirations of the people and the promise of a more prosperous Nasarawa.
The future of Nasarawa State deserves a leader who not only understands governance but also understands the people. For many citizens across the state, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada represents that leader.
