Baraden Nasarawa: Choosing Party Interest Over Personal Ambition

By Bala DanAlkali.

Last weekend, a strategic meeting of APC stakeholders convened and chaired by Rt. Hon. Dr. Musa Ahmed Muhammed (Baraden Nasarawa) marked another significant milestone in the political realignment ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State. The gathering, held in Nasarawa town, was aimed at mobilising and consolidating support for Senator Ahmad Wadada Aliyu.
The meeting attracted party stakeholders, community leaders, political actors, and supporters from all seven wards of Nasarawa Local Government Area. Beyond its impressive attendance, the gathering served as a clear demonstration of the commitment of party loyalists to Senator Wadada’s vision and governorship aspiration.
Perhaps its greatest significance was that it effectively laid to rest recent speculation that Baraden Nasarawa was no longer fully committed to the Wadada project. Those rumours gained traction after some of his supporters openly expressed dissatisfaction with his decision to step aside from the governorship race out of respect for, and in obedience to, the wishes of Governor Abdullahi Sule. Disappointed by that decision, some of them shifted their support to former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.
Saturday’s well-attended meeting, however, removed any lingering doubt. It reaffirmed Baraden Nasarawa’s unwavering commitment to Senator Wadada’s political project and underscored his determination to build a united APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Politics is, by its very nature, a contest of ambition, shifting alliances, and competing interests. In such an environment, genuine loyalty is in short supply. It is therefore worth recognising the political maturity displayed by Dr. Mohammed Musa Baraden Nasarawa, the Accountant General of Nasarawa State.
There is no disputing the fact  that Baraden Nasarawa nurtured an ambition to contest the governorship of Nasarawa State in 2027. He invested considerable time, energy, and resources in building a political structure across the state. His aspiration was neither concealed nor pursued half-heartedly.
Yet politics is also about discipline, collective responsibility, and respect for leadership. When Governor Abdullahi Sule publicly indicated his preference for Senator Ahmad Wadada Aliyu, Baraden Nasarawa made a decision that many politicians would have found it difficult. He subordinated his personal ambition to the collective interest of his party and aligned himself with the position of his political leader.
Rather than allowing disappointment to breed division or pursuing a parallel political agenda, he openly declared his support for Senator Wadada and pledged to work for the success of the APC’s governorship candidate. More importantly, he has matched his words with action.
The stakeholders’ meeting he convened last Saturday was not a symbolic gathering. It was a strategic mobilisation effort designed to strengthen the party’s grassroots support and position Nasarawa Local Government Area to deliver overwhelming support for Senator Wadada in 2027. It demonstrated that Baraden Nasarawa remains committed not only to party unity but also to ensuring that the APC approaches the next election as a cohesive political family.
At a time when political disagreements frequently result in defections, internal crises, and prolonged rivalries, Baraden Nasarawa’s conduct offers a refreshing example of political restraint and party loyalty. It is a reminder that leadership is not measured solely by the offices one occupies but also by the sacrifices one is prepared to make in the interest of his principal, just the way and manner Baraden Nasarawa did in the interest of Engr. Abdullahi Sule.
Whether one agrees with the political calculations that produced the current alignment is beside the point. What deserves recognition is the consistency between Baraden Nasarawa’s public declarations and his actions. By honouring his commitment, he has reinforced his reputation as a dependable, disciplined, and trustworthy politician whose word carries weight.
As the political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the 2027 governorship election, Senator Wadada’s campaign will undoubtedly require the support of committed and credible political actors across the state. In that regard, Baraden Nasarawa has demonstrated his willingness and the determination to ensure the success of Senator Wadada in the forthcoming general elections.
His decision to place party cohesion above personal ambition may well stand as one of the defining moments of the APC’s preparations for 2027. In an era when personal interests often eclipse collective goals, Baraden Nasarawa’s example deserves acknowledgement. After all, enduring political leadership is defined not only by the positions one seeks, but by the sacrifices one willingly makes in pursuit of the interest of his principal.
