There is an old saying that good deeds speak for themselves. While this may be true, today’s political environment tells a different story. In our clime, however, performance alone is not enough. Achievements must be communicated consistently and effectively if they are to resonate with the people.
The Hausa have a popular saying: “In kana da kyau, ka haɗa da wanka,” meaning that even if you are naturally blessed with good looks, you still need to take care of yourself. In other words, having an advantage is not enough; you must make an extra effort to maintain and showcase it. The same principle applies in politics.
No doubt Governor Abdullahi Sule have impressive achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and economic development. However, if those achievements are not properly communicated, many citizens may never fully appreciate them. Political success depends not only on delivering results but also on ensuring that the public is aware of those results.
This point was reportedly emphasized by the late Sardauna of Sokoto during the commissioning of the New Nigerian newspaper in Kaduna in the late 1960s. He observed that in a complex society, even an achiever must tell people about those achievements because, if you do not blow your own trumpet, no one else will do it for you. That observation remains relevant today.
In Nasarawa State, Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration has recorded notable achievements across several sectors. Yet, one cannot help but observe that many of us appear reluctant to actively project these accomplishments. This attitude leaves much to be desired.
Holding political office in a democratic system comes with responsibilities that extend beyond the functions of the office. It also requires political engagement. Once an individual accepts an appointment under an elected government, that person becomes a politician and an integral part of the political structure that produced that government. Supporting the government’s policies and political direction is, therefore, part of the responsibility that comes with such an office.
Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu is now the APC governorship candidate and, hopefully, Governor Sule’s successor. As the party’s candidate, Senator Wadada has become the standard-bearer for the continuity of the current administration’s vision in Nasarawa State. Therefore, promoting his candidacy has become a responsibility for all those who genuinely support Governor Abdullahi Sule. We cannot claim to stand with Engr. Sule on one hand while refusing to to stand with Senator Wadada on the other. Such a position would amount to hypocrisy.
If we are truly with Engr. Sule, then we must align ourselves with the governor’s political vision. Our duty is not only to implement government policies and programmes but also to defend and promote Senator Wadada’s candidacy.
Governor Sule and the APC should not be left alone to market Senator Wadada. Every government official who believes in Governor Sule’s vision must go the extra mile to project Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada and explain the benefits of continuity in the governance of Nasarawa State.
If we truly believe in Governor Sule’s vision for the state, then now is the time to actively support Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada through effective political engagement.
As the 2027 general elections draw nearer, we must put all pretence aside and openly campaign for Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.
We cannot afford to remain indifferent or fail to align ourselves with Governor Sule’s vision for the future of Nasarawa State.
