The Nasarawa State Government on Wednesday said its decision to reshuffle the State Executive Council was a deliberate move to strengthen governance structures, accommodate other interests, and inject fresh energy into the system ahead of the administration’s final months in office.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, SAN, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, where he announced that six commissioners had been asked to step aside as part of what he described as a minor cabinet reshuffle.
Magaji stressed that the decision was not a reflection of the performance of the affected commissioners, noting that the government appreciated their commitment and contributions while in office.
According to him, the affected commissioners headed the Ministries of Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, and Security and Other Sundry Matters.
He added that the commissioners would be considered for other assignments in due course, while the names of their replacements would be announced through the appropriate channels.
The SSG also disclosed that deliberations at the council meeting focused on strategies to enhance the state’s internally generated revenue by leveraging the growing lithium processing industry in Nasarawa.
He recalled that the state recently gained national attention following the commissioning of one of the country’s largest lithium processing companies by the Vice President on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Magaji said discussions on measures to maximise the economic benefits of the lithium processing companies operating in the state were still ongoing, adding that the outcome of the deliberations would be made public when concluded.
