Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), Hon. Dr. Aliyu Bello, on Thursday led the Corporation’s management team on a courtesy visit to the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, to strengthen collaboration on agricultural insurance and advance the Federal Government’s food security agenda.
The delegation included the Managing Director of NAIC, Hon. Yazeed Shehu Danfulani, as both officials reiterated the Corporation’s commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the areas of food security, agricultural resilience and sustainable rural development.
During the meeting, discussions focused on repositioning NAIC to enhance operational efficiency, improve service delivery and expand agricultural insurance coverage to more farmers across Nigeria.
The NAIC leadership outlined key priorities, including the strategic repositioning of the Corporation, widening insurance access for both smallholder and commercial farmers, and strengthening the agricultural value chain to promote sustainable national development.
Speaking during the engagement, the NAIC team emphasized that agricultural insurance remains a critical tool for protecting farmers against climate-related disasters, pest infestations and market uncertainties, noting that effective risk management is essential to boosting agricultural productivity and encouraging greater investment in the sector.
The officials pledged to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to scale up insurance coverage and ensure that more farmers benefit from the Corporation’s intervention programmes.
In his remarks, Senator Abdullahi welcomed the delegation and assured the Corporation of the Ministry’s support in aligning NAIC’s mandate with the Federal Government’s broader food security objectives.
He stressed the importance of collaboration among relevant institutions in achieving sustainable agricultural growth and ensuring that Nigerian farmers are better protected from production risks.
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation to strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders and enhance the delivery of agricultural insurance services, making farming more attractive, productive and less risky under the current administration.
