Hajiya Maryam Wadada, wife of Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, has reaffirmed her commitment to empowering women at the grassroots, as 500 women in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State received N50,000 each under an empowerment programme supported by the senator Wadada.
Speaking while addressing the beneficiaries, Hajiya Maryam said the initiative was part of Senator Wadada’s commitment to ensuring that women are not left behind in the drive for economic prosperity across Nasarawa State.
She urged the beneficiaries to see the financial support not merely as cash assistance, but as an opportunity to strengthen their businesses, support their families and achieve greater economic independence.
“I stand before you today not as a politician’s wife, but as a mother, a sister, and a daughter of this land. This ₦50,000 is not just money. It is dignity. It is an opportunity. It is a tool for you to grow your business, support your children, and stand on your own,” she said.
The initiative, which amounted to N25 million for the 500 beneficiaries, underscores the Wadada family’s continued focus on grassroots intervention, particularly in supporting women and improving household livelihoods.
The Chairman of Lafia Local Government Area was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Uba Arikya, who received Hajiya Maryam and her team on arrival.
Arikya commended Senator Wadada and his wife for sustaining a programme that directly impacts the lives of women at the grassroots.
Speaking on behalf of the chairman, he said the people of Lafia welcomed Hajiya Maryam warmly, describing the empowerment initiative as another demonstration of the Wadada family’s commitment to service.
“Your Excellency, Hajiya Maryam Wadada Aliyu, on behalf of the good people of Lafia Local Government, I welcome you wholeheartedly to your home. This is not the first time we are seeing this kind of gesture from the Wadada family, and it will not be the last because service is in your DNA. Today, 500 women in Lafia will smile,” Arikya said.
He expressed appreciation to Senator Ahmed Wadada and his wife for extending their empowerment efforts to women in Lafia, stressing that initiatives of such nature could contribute significantly to improving the economic well-being of families in the local government.
The beneficiaries, drawn from different communities within Lafia, received the financial support to enable them to expand existing businesses and pursue income-generating activities.
Hajiya Maryam reiterated that the programme was driven by a desire to create opportunities for women to become more economically self-reliant, assuring the beneficiaries that their welfare remained a priority.
She called on the women to make productive use of the funds and allow the intervention to translate into sustainable improvements in their businesses and families.
