As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum in Nasarawa State, the Eminent Persons Assembly of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa South Senatorial District has thrown its weight behind the party’s candidates, pledging full support for their emergence at the polls.
The group made its position known on Tuesday in Lafia during a press conference addressed by  Senator Umaru Suleiman Azores, where it declared that the APC in the state must remain united and focused on securing victory in the forthcoming elections.
At the centre of the Assembly’s declaration is Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, the APC governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, whose emergence at the party’s primary election, according to the group, reflects the confidence and trust reposed in him by party members across the state.
The Assembly promised to mobilise its members and supporters across Nasarawa South and beyond to work for the success of Wadada and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
The Assembly also used the occasion to commend Governor Abdullahi A. Sule for what it described as significant developmental strides recorded by his administration.
Particular recognition was given to the government’s efforts in infrastructure development, human capital development, as well as the maintenance of peace and security across the state.
According to the group, these achievements have contributed to creating an environment conducive to economic and social development, while strengthening public confidence in the administration.
The Assembly equally praised the APC leadership at the national, state and local levels for what it described as the provision of a level playing field during the party’s primary elections.
It said the successful conduct of the primaries demonstrated the capacity of the party to manage internal competition and resolve differences through democratic processes.
The Eminent Persons Assembly congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his emergence as the APC presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
It also congratulated Governor Sule on his emergence as the party’s candidate for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District, while extending its congratulations to Senator Wadada on securing the APC governorship ticket.
The group further felicitated Hon. Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, Hon. Mohammed Al-Makura and Hon. Yakubu Dalhatu Araf on their emergence as the party’s candidates for various National Assembly seats.
The Assembly described the emergence of the candidates as an opportunity for the party to consolidate its political structure and pursue a coordinated campaign ahead of the general elections.
The choice of Hon. Emmanuel Michael Ombugadu as Wadada’s running mate also received the endorsement of the group.
The Assembly described the selection as a strategic decision capable of adding value to the APC ticket and strengthening the party’s prospects in the 2027 governorship election.
At the same time, it appealed to other aspirants who had sought the running-mate position, including Dr. Haruna Kigbu, Chief Sonny Agassi and Dr. Joseph Oboshi Attah, to accept the decision in good faith and put the larger interest of the party above individual ambitions.
The appeal underscores the growing emphasis on internal cohesion as the APC prepares for what is expected to be a competitive election season.
Beyond the endorsement of candidates, the Assembly also called for a peaceful and issue-based campaign.
It urged candidates and supporters of all political parties to avoid inflammatory rhetoric, violence and intimidation, insisting that political competition should not be allowed to damage the social bonds that hold the people of Nasarawa State together.
The Assembly captured its message in a call for political maturity:
“Let us disagree without becoming disagreeable. Let us compete without becoming enemies. Political contests are temporary, but the relationships that bind us as a people are permanent.”
The  group appeal for political actors to pursue their ambitions within the framework of the law and respect the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The Assembly’s declaration comes as political parties across the country begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Assembly expressed the confidence that the enthusiasm the APC in Nasarawa State  generated during the primaries will be translated into a united campaign structure capable of delivering victory across the various elective positions.
The group therefore urged APC members across the state to close ranks, bury personal differences and work collectively for the overall success of the party.
With the endorsement of Senator Wadada and other APC candidates, the Eminent Persons Assembly has signalled its readiness to play an active role in the party’s campaign efforts, while simultaneously calling for a political environment where competition does not degenerate into conflict.
