EDITORIAL: Excessive heat In Lafia: Why Nasarawa State Government Must Paid Attention

Excessive heat can pose various dangers to our health and well-being. Lafia, being the state capital, harbors a quantum of heat waves, which could at best be described as unpleasant with major risks.

Excessive heat leads to heatstroke, which can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. Apart from heatstroke, excessive heat can cause
dehydration, and can
worsened chronic conditions, such as asthma, arthritis, migraine, hypertension, and diabetes. The heat can also impair the cognitive function and physical coordination of human beings.
Elderly individuals, young children, pregnant women, and those with certain medical conditions are more susceptible to the adverse effects of excessive heat.
Now the question is: how can Nasarawa State Government wade in? Nasarawa Eye believes that Nasarawa State Government can come in by alleviating the excessive heat by prevailing on AEDC to be alive to their responsibilities in Lafia. A reasonable supply of electricity to Lafia can mitigate the suffering residents of Lafia are facing as a result of this heat wave. It is unacceptable that residents of Lafia are left to grab a few hours of electricity in a day despite improvements in megawatts from the national grid. Kebbi state government intervention in the supply of electricity to the residents of Birnin Kebbi needs to be emulated by Nasarawa state government. The government of Nasarawa State has a responsibility to ensure the good health and general well-being of its citizens.
