By Our Reporter. The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Nasarawa State has warned against frivolous applications for adjournment, just as it called on all councils appearing before it to be punctual in order to make the job of the Tribunal easy.
Speaking at the inaugural sitting of the Tribunal in Lafia, Justice Abba Mohammed who is the chairman of the tribunal, stressed that, given the mandatory time frame governing the proceeding of the tribunal, it would not entertain frivolous and unwarranted applications for adjournments and appealed to all to be meticulous, brief and concise in presentation of their cases before the tribunal.
He said the tribunal would be guided by the Electoral Act and assured all stakeholders that the tribunal would abide by the oath of office it took, stressing that the tribunal would carried out its mandate without fear or favour.
“Our decisions shall be based solely on the facts and evidence presented before us and the provisions of the law that govern these cases,” the chairman added.
Justice Mohammad said that the tribunal would take all pending applications at the pre-hearing session, assuring that the tribunal would sit daily, except for extreme exigencies, to ensure speedy dispensation of justice.
Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) speaking on behalf of all counsels, assured the tribunal of their cooperation in the discharge of their mandate.
