Woman Accused Of Killing Her Husband In Nasarawa Sentence To Death By Hanging

Mrs. Ijeoma Okoli of shagari road in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State who was accused of killing her husband, Innocent Okoli in 2013 was sentenced to death by handing.
The accused, aged 47 years, has three daughters with her late husband.
Delivering the Judgement Monday at the State High Court 1, before the State Chief Judge, Suleman Umaru Dikko cited culpable homicide 221 of the panel code of Northern Nigeria, that accused be sentenced to dead by hanging.
According to the Chief Judge, she was convicted and sentenced to dead by hanging based on the evidences before him.
Mrs Okoli who denied the allegations leveled against her said, she didn’t killed her husband.
She denied the allegations, but investigations and subsequent trials on the matter revealed that, Mrs. Okoli killed her husband.
Through circumstantial evidence, it was gathered that she was the killer, because, she was the last person that was with him when the incident occurred.
Justina Alkali Ally who represented the State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Abdulkarim Kana on the matter thanked the court for granting Justice to the deceased.
“We are grateful that the court used the law appropriately for justice.”
Counsel to the defendant, Marcus Abbu of Justice Advocates Abuja pleaded for allocutus, that the judge should temper Justice with mercy, considering that the acussed have children to care for, hence it should be reduced to life imprisonment to enable her children visit her.
