APC Stakeholders Dismiss Allegations of Irregularities in Nasarawa Primaries

Concerned stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State have dismissed allegations of irregularities and manipulation in the recently concluded National Assembly primaries conducted across the state on May 18, 2026.
The stakeholders were reacting to an open letter authored by former member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Makpa Malla Esq., who alleged widespread irregularities, fictitious declaration of results, diversion of electoral materials, and security complicity during the exercise.
In a strongly worded rebuttal issued on Wednesday in Lafia and signed by Musa Shehu and Danlami Mohammed, the stakeholders described the allegations as “baseless,” “misleading,” and “the predictable reaction of sore losers unable to accept the outcome of a democratic process.”
According to the group, the primaries were conducted peacefully and substantially in line with the APC Constitution and electoral guidelines, despite what they described as “minor logistical challenges” experienced in some areas.
“Across the State, party members turned out massively to participate in the exercise in an orderly and democratic manner,” the statement read. “Like every large-scale political exercise, there were isolated logistical challenges in some locations, but these did not in any way invalidate the credibility or legitimacy of the process.”
The stakeholders also defended the role played by security agencies during the primaries, commending the Nigeria Police Force and other security operatives for maintaining law and order throughout the exercise.
“The Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies deserve commendation, not condemnation, for the professionalism displayed during the exercise,” the statement added.
Hon. Makpa Malla, in his earlier open letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Chairman, and the Inspector General of Police, had alleged that electoral materials were diverted, lawful voting did not take place in several constituencies, and that some results were allegedly fabricated in favour of preferred aspirants.
He further called for the cancellation of the results in affected areas, investigation of security personnel and party officials, as well as fresh primaries in constituencies where he claimed the process was compromised.
However, the APC stakeholders insisted that the exercise reflected the wishes of party members and accused aggrieved aspirants of attempting to undermine the integrity of the process after failing to secure victory.
“Elections naturally produce winners and losers,” the statement noted. “Unfortunately, it has become common for defeated politicians to attack institutions and manufacture conspiracy theories whenever electoral outcomes do not favour them.”
The group urged party members to remain united and pursue any grievances through established internal mechanisms rather than engaging in public campaigns capable of causing unnecessary tension within the party.
The Nasarawa APC stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to party unity and expressed confidence that the party would emerge stronger ahead of future elections.
