Adokwe Decries Erratic Electricity Supply In Lafia, Calls for Urgent Action Against AEDC

By Our Reporter

Alh. Abdullahi Ladan Adokwe has expressed concern over the persistent poor electricity supply in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, describing the situation as unacceptable despite the long-standing presence of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in the state.
According to him, many communities across Lafia continue to experience erratic power supply and low voltage, a development that has adversely affected businesses, economic activities, and the daily lives of residents.
He identified Ungwan Shalele in Lafia East and several communities along Makurdi Road as among the worst-hit areas, where residents reportedly struggle with weak and unstable electricity that is often insufficient to power basic household appliances. The situation, he noted, has made it difficult for residents to charge mobile phones and pump water from boreholes, forcing many households to rely on generators despite the rising cost of fuel.
Alh. Adokwe further criticized what residents describe as exorbitant electricity bills that do not correspond with the quality of service being rendered. He observed that consumers in Nasarawa State contribute significantly to AEDC’s revenue generation but continue to receive inadequate power supply.
He lamented that complaints about the situation have been repeatedly brought to the attention of AEDC officials and other relevant authorities over the years, yet there has been little or no noticeable improvement.
The community leader therefore called on elected representatives at both the state and federal levels to intervene decisively in addressing the lingering power challenges confronting residents. He specifically urged lawmakers and other stakeholders to work collaboratively toward ensuring improved electricity service delivery across Lafia and other parts of Nasarawa State.
Alh. Adokwe recalled previous efforts by some public office holders to draw attention to the issue but stressed that such interventions must be sustained until lasting solutions are achieved.
He also appealed to political office holders seeking re-election to demonstrate genuine commitment to the welfare of their constituents by prioritizing the resolution of the electricity crisis.
According to him, government intervention should extend beyond the provision of transformers to communities. He emphasized the need for proper deployment, maintenance, and effective utilization of electricity infrastructure to guarantee reliable power supply and meaningful benefits for consumers.
As public dissatisfaction continues to grow, Alh. Abdullahi Ladan Adokwe called on AEDC and relevant government authorities to take urgent and practical steps to improve electricity supply, restore public confidence in the power sector, and support economic growth in Nasarawa State.
