Gober 2027: VP Shettima’s Remark Has Settled the Debate on Wadada’s APC Governorship Ticket

By Rayyanu Bala

Politics, as we all know, is filled with speculation, rumours, and attempts by some individuals to create confusion where there is none. In Nasarawa State, one of the issues that has generated considerable discussion in recent times is the APC governorship primary election, in which Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu emerged victorious with 194,490 votes, defeating former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, who polled 42,501 votes.
The outcome of the primary election has strengthened the growing belief among supporters of Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu that he is destined to fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 governorship election.
While many people, including some aspirants, have accepted this political reality, a few others have continued to dismiss the possibility, insisting that Wadada is not the valid candidate of the party. However, what happened during the birthday celebration of the Emir of Lafia, held at the Aliyu Akwe Doma Banquet Hall, Government House, Lafia, on Monday, has significantly altered the conversation.
At the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima publicly referred to Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu as the APC governorship candidate in Nasarawa State. Beyond that, he went further to affirm that Wadada is an incoming governor destined for higher responsibility—a statement that many political observers have interpreted as a strong endorsement from one of the highest-ranking leaders of the APC-led administration in Nigeria.
For many supporters of Senator Wadada, the Vice President’s remarks did not come as a surprise. They believe that what was publicly stated merely confirmed what God has already ordained and what many people have long seen unfolding within the political landscape of Nasarawa State.
The significance of the Vice President’s statement cannot be overstated. In politics, words matter, especially when they come from a figure as influential as the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. His public recognition of Wadada in such a manner has effectively put to rest the endless insinuations and doubts spread by those who refused to believe that Wadada is the APC governorship candidate.
Of course, in politics, many people have the liberty to express their opinions. However, the Vice President’s remarks, as stated earlier, have provided a clear indication of political realities and the direction in which events appear to be heading.
What is becoming increasingly evident is that Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu continues to enjoy growing acceptance across different segments of Nasarawa State. His political experience, grassroots connection, and expanding support base have positioned him as a formidable figure in the state’s political landscape.
For those who have continued to question his emergence, the Vice President’s declaration has delivered a powerful message. It has reassured supporters, strengthened confidence among party faithful, and significantly reduced the uncertainty that opponents sought to create.
As the political journey toward 2027 gradually unfolds, one thing is clear: the discussion surrounding Senator Wadada’s governorship ambition has entered a new phase. Following Vice President Kashim Shettima’s public remarks in Lafia, many believe that the debate over whether Wadada is the APC’s governorship candidate has largely been settled.
The days ahead will undoubtedly bring further political developments. However, for now, supporters of Wadada view the Vice President’s statement as a confirmation of what they have always believed—that destiny, popular support, and divine providence are aligning in favour of Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu.
