Politics is, by its very nature, a contest of ambition. Every serious aspirant enters the arena with genuine conviction, invests enormous resources, builds political structures, and nurtures the hope of leading. For that reason, stepping aside in favour of another aspirant is not an easy decision. It demands political maturity, personal sacrifice, and commitment to a cause greater than individual aspirations.
That is why the conduct of several governorship aspirants within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State deserves appreciation as the party prepares for the 2027 governorship election.
Before Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu emerged as the party’s candidate through a credible primary election, a number of accomplished and respected politicians had also presented themselves for the state’s highest office. Among them were Dr. Faisal Shuaibu, Rt. Hon. Dr. Musa Ahmed Muhammed (Baraden Nasarawa), Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, and Barrister Tanimu Adamson among others. Each had built a formidable political structure, cultivated grassroots support, and possessed the experience and credentials to pursue the governorship with determination.
Yet when the party’s leadership charted its course, they made a decision that many politicians would find difficult. Rather than allowing personal disappointment to breed division or pursuing parallel political agendas, they chose to subordinate personal ambition to the collective interest of the APC. By aligning themselves with the party’s direction, they demonstrated that loyalty to a political platform sometimes requires sacrifice.
Their decisions have contributed significantly to the atmosphere of stability currently enjoyed within the APC. At a time when political disagreements frequently result in defections, prolonged litigation, and bitter internal rivalries, such restraint is both uncommon and commendable.
The same spirit was evident after the party’s primary election. Democracy inevitably produces both winners and those who fall short. However, the true strength of any political party lies not in the absence of competition but in the willingness of those who do not emerge victorious to accept the outcome in the interest of unity.
Barrister Hassan Liman and
Fatima Abdullahi Adamu exemplified this democratic culture by accepting the outcome of the primary with maturity and continuing to work within the APC. Their conduct, alongside that of other aspirants who accepted the verdict of the party, reinforced confidence in the APC’s internal democratic processes and demonstrated that political competition need not become political hostility.
Such acts of statesmanship as said earlier deserves appreciation and commendations. Thier  support are indispensable to building a united and successful political organisation. They require emotional discipline, selflessness, and a long-term vision that places institutional strength above personal gain.
As preparations for the 2027 governorship election gather momentum, Senator Wadada’s campaign will rely not only on his own political appeal but also on the collective efforts of those who once sought the same office. The continued support of leaders such as Dr. Faisal Shuaibu, Baraden Nasarawa, Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, Barrister Tanimu Adamson, Barrister Hassan Liman, Fatima Abdullahi Adamu and many other party stakeholders provide the APC with a stronger and more united platform from which to approach the election.
Some people may hold differing opinions about the political calculations that produced the current alignment. That is the nature of democracy. What should not be overlooked, however, is the culture of discipline, loyalty, and respect for collective decisions that these aspirants have demonstrated. Their willingness to place the interests of the party above personal ambition offers a refreshing contrast to the politics of bitterness and division that dominate the nation’s political landscape.
History hardly celebrates only those who won an election, It also honours those whose sacrifices make collective success possible. If the APC enters the 2027 governorship election as a cohesive and formidable political force, much of that achievement will owe itself not only to its candidate but also to those who willingly put unity above personal ambition.
Ultimately, enduring political leadership is defined not only by the offices one seeks, but by the sacrifices one is prepared to make in pursuit of a shared vision. That is the enduring lesson offered by the APC’s aspirants in Nasarawa State. We at Nasarawa Eye salute this courage.
