The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr Danladi Jatau, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly his supporters in Kokona Local Government Area, to accept the outcome of the party’s recently concluded primary elections in good faith and work for the victory of all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Jatau made the appeal on Sunday while addressing party supporters and stakeholders drawn from across Kokona Local Government Area at his residence in Garaku.
The Speaker, who lost the APC primary for the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency to Hon. Daniel Ogazi, said he had accepted the outcome of the exercise and urged his supporters to do the same in the interest of the party.
He described the APC as one united family, stressing that although every political contest produces winners and losers, the collective interest of the party must take precedence over personal ambitions.
“Politics is about service and party loyalty. I appeal to everyone to accept the outcome of the primaries in good faith. Let us remain united, peaceful and work together to ensure victory for all APC candidates in 2027,” he said.
Jatau urged party members to avoid actions capable of creating division, bitterness and disaffection within the APC, noting that only a united party could achieve electoral success in the next general elections.
He also appreciated his supporters for their loyalty, maturity and peaceful conduct before, during and after the primary election, assuring them that their commitment to the party and the development of Kokona Local Government Area would not be taken for granted.
“I sincerely appreciate your support and confidence in me over the years. Let us continue to strengthen our party, avoid unnecessary disagreements and focus on delivering electoral success for the APC in the next general elections,” he added.
The Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to the ruling party, declaring that he remained a loyal and committed member of the APC.
“I am still in the APC, and I remain a committed member of the party. I urge all my supporters to continue supporting the APC administration under Governor Abdullahi Sule and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
Jatau further called on his supporters to rally behind the APC governorship candidate, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
“Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada has always sought my support, and today I call on all my supporters to come together and support his candidature in 2027. Together, we can strengthen our party, ensure its victory and sustain the progress of Nasarawa State,” he said.
He also appealed to residents of the state to promote peace, unity and harmonious coexistence, irrespective of ethnic or religious differences.
“We are all one and equal before God Almighty. Let us live together in unity, love and harmony without allowing our backgrounds to divide us. This is the only path to sustainable peace and meaningful development,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of party stakeholders, the Secretary of Kokona Local Government Council, Mikailu Sallau, alongside Hon. Aminu Gaya and Hon. Ladi Audu, pledged continued loyalty to the Speaker and the APC.
They said they had accepted Jatau’s appeal for reconciliation and unity, promising to mobilise grassroots support for all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
“We have accepted the Speaker’s appeal. We will remain united, reconcile with one another and work for the success of the APC because the interest of the party is greater than individual interests,” they said.
The stakeholders also commended Jatau for his faith in God, maturity and sportsmanship following the outcome of the party primary.
The meeting ended with prayers for peace, unity and the continued success of the APC in Kokona Local Government Area, Nasarawa State and the country.
Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Councillors’ Forum paid a sympathy visit to the Speaker over his defeat in the APC primary for the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency. Jatau thanked the councillors for their solidarity and encouraged them to mobilise support for all APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Also, the Keffi Zone Progressive Forum honoured the Speaker with an Award of Recognition, conferring on him the title of Peace Ambassador of Nasarawa State in recognition of his commitment to peace, unity and political stability.
