Partisan politics is practised collectively rather than individually in every corner of the world.
Politics is a teamwork. That is why the statement made by the member representing Awe, Keana and Doma Federal Constituency and APC senatorial candidate for the 2027 election, Alhaji Abubakar Nalaraba, during the opening of his campaign office in Obi on Saturday deserves commendation.
His directive was simple but profound: “Wherever you are placing my picture, you must not leave out Senator Wadada. I don’t want it placed without his.” That single statement speaks volumes. It reflects an understanding that elections are won not only by individual candidates but by the strength of a united political family.
Since Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu is the APC governorship candidate, then every APC candidate seeking elective office under the party’s platform has a responsibility to promote and campaign for him, just as they should for every other APC candidate. The same spirit should extend from the presidency down to the House of Assembly. The APC ticket begins with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and runs through every candidate representing the party at every level.
Nalaraba’s action is exactly what party faithful expect from anyone flying the APC flag. It sends a message that personal campaigns should never overshadow the party’s collective interest. When supporters see campaign posters, billboards, and banners, they should be reminded that they are voting for a team, not isolated individuals.
This is the kind of political maturity that strengthens party cohesion. It reduces unnecessary rivalry among candidates within the same party and reinforces the message that APC is one family working towards a common goal.
Other APC candidates would do well to emulate this example. Campaign materials should prominently feature not only their own images but also those of the party’s standard-bearers, especially President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, alongside other APC candidates where appropriate. More importantly, their campaign speeches and engagements should consistently encourage support for the entire APC ticket.
Unity has always been one of the greatest strengths of any successful political party. By publicly insisting that Senator Wadada’s image accompany his own, Alhaji Abubakar Nalaraba has demonstrated the kind of team spirit that can inspire confidence among party members and voters alike.
As we move closer to 2027 elections, the APC’s success will depend not only on the popularity of individual candidates but also on how effectively they present themselves as one united family with one mission. On this score, Nalaraba has set a worthy example that others should follow.
