Politics, everywhere in the world, is driven by strategy and alliances. However, many political journeys begin with motives that are not entirely about serving the people. In my view, this is exactly what has happened with former IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu’s governorship project.
The project right from on set was built on a shaky foundation. It was not founded on a genuine desire to unite the people of Nasarawa State.
We all know quite well that the principle of zoning is the only viable path for Nasarawa State. Any political project that deviates from this principle is, in my opinion, designed to divide the people rather than unite them.
The former IGP’s project is designed, on the one hand, to divide the people and, on the other, to serve as a political tool for settling scores with Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule by individuals who felt that their expectations and political interests had not been met.
The unfortunate part is that the former IGP himself, along with many of his supporters, have not fully recognized this reality. They embraced the project with sincerity, while some of those who encouraged the ambition had entirely different objectives.
If the key promoters of the governorship bid were truly committed to its success, one would expect them to be at the forefront of the struggle. Everywhere they go even in Abuja, they should openly identify with the project, provide visible leadership, and demonstrate their commitment by taking bold political steps, including joining the wave of defections when the former IGP left the APC. Instead, many of them have chosen to remain in the background, leaving others to carry the burden.
This raises an important question: if those who initiated the former IGP’s governorship project are unwilling to publicly stand by it, how can they convince others that they genuinely believe in it?
Today, the atmosphere within the former IGP’s political camp reflects nothing but uncertainty. Many are unsure of which direction to take. It resembles the popular saying, “suffering and smiling.” There seems to be no clear direction, yet no one is willing to admit that the journey has lost direction. The former IGP and his closest supporters are confused as to how to draw the curtain. Instead, they continue to indulge in self-deception.
This confusion to say the least, has become the defining feature of the entire project, leaving supporters in Lafia wandering from place to place, wondering what comes next.
At this juncture, it must be acknowledged that politics requires courage, conviction, and clarity of purpose. Any political project or movement that lacks these qualities risks losing direction. If the promoters of former IGP Adamu’s ambition intend to remain politically relevant our advice is, they must honestly assess their position, clarify their intentions, and demonstrate genuine commitment to the APC. Otherwise, they may ultimately suffer a political Waterloo in no distant time.
