Governor Abdullahi Sule’s remarks during the courtesy visit by the Wadada Project team to the Government House on Friday carried the weight of his personal commitment to the project. His donation of N50 million from his personal resources to support the project was particularly striking and demonstrated the depth of his conviction and dedication.
The Governor also affirmed that the “Wadada Project” is his project. Indeed, it is rightly regarded as Governor Sule’s project because he was the one who single-handedly birthed the initiative. Having conceived and initiated the project, he arguably has more personal stake in its success than anyone else, including Wadada himself.
Governor Sule’s words and personal contribution therefore underscore not only his commitment to the Wadada Project but also his determination to see it achieve its intended objectives.
His statement to the effect that “he would be the happiest human being on earth on the day he hands over the leadership of Nasarawa State to Wadada” raises a very important question for everyone who believes in Governor Sule’s leadership and in the future of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State.
The question now is: What are we going to do to make the Governor’s expressed wish a reality?
Since Governor Sule has openly declared that he wants to be the person who hands over the affairs of the state to Wadada, those who regard themselves as his loyal supporters cannot afford to remain spectators.
This message is particularly important for APC members, leaders, stakeholders and, indeed, political appointees of the Governor. Loyalty should not only be demonstrated through words or political gatherings. At a critical political moment such as 2027, loyalty must translate into organisation, mobilisation and electoral victory for the APC.
Since Wadada is the project, as the Governor himself has described it, every supporter of Governor Sule within the APC must treat the emergence and victory of Wadada as a collective responsibility.
This responsibility cannot be left to the Governor alone.
The Governor can provide political direction. He can offer encouragement and support. He can make his personal contribution, as he has done with the N50 million donation. But ultimately, elections are won at the grassroots.
That is why every APC leader and supporter must go back to his or her ward and polling unit. We must not leave anything to chance.
Every political appointee who benefits from Governor Sule’s administration must understand the seriousness of the moment. Since the Governor’s greatest political happiness, by his own words, would be to hand over the state to Wadada, then those entrusted with responsibilities under his administration should be asking themselves: What can we do to help make that historic moment possible?
The job is clear: we must deliver our wards to the APC, from top to bottom. This must go beyond speeches, social media activities and meetings. It must be demonstrated on election day.
We must collectively work to ensure that the APC wins convincingly across the state.
Political appointees, party leaders, elected representatives, youth leaders, women leaders and ordinary party members all have roles to play. Their role is to persuade voters and earn their support.
Since Governor Sule has said that he would be happiest handing over to Wadada, then we must work to make him happy by delivering the result he has publicly expressed his desire for.
Those who call themselves Sule’s men and women must demonstrate that commitment in their respective wards. Those holding appointments must demonstrate that they can mobilise support for the party. Those who occupy positions of influence must use that influence responsibly to strengthen the APC at the grassroots.
Because, in the final analysis, the Governor’s dream of handing over to Wadada cannot be achieved at the Government House. It must be achieved in the 3, 256 polling units of Nasarawa State.
So, since it is indeed the Wadada Project, then let everyone who believes in Governor Abdullahi Sule’s leadership understand the assignment.
Let every polling unit be won.
Let every APC supporter do his or her part.
Let every appointee demonstrate commitment.
And let the collective effort of the APC in 2027 produce the outcome that will allow Governor Sule to do what he has said would make him the happiest human being on earth: handing over the leadership of Nasarawa State to Wadada.
This is the task Governor Sule has now publicly placed before us all.
Therefore, anyone who believes in the project must get to work now.
We must put the devil to shame.
