Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has described the 2027 general election as one of the most important elections in the political history of Nasarawa State, urging party stakeholders to set aside personal grievances and work for the victory of all APC candidates.
Adamu made the call on Tuesday at an APC stakeholders’ meeting held at the Aliyu Akwe Doma Banquet Hall, Lafia, where he also endorsed Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada for the Nasarawa State governorship election.
The meeting, convened by Adamu, the first civilian governor of Nasarawa State, brought together members of the state working committee, aspirants, candidates, local government chairmen, ambassadors and other stakeholders.
It was primarily aimed at reconciling members who were aggrieved by the outcome of the party’s recent primaries and restoring unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adamu urged APC members to put aside individual interests and support the party’s candidates, from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates.
He also cautioned party leaders and officeholders against arrogance, stressing the need for humility and inclusiveness in dealing with party members and the electorate.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, who spoke at the meeting, called on APC stakeholders to unite and deliver Nasarawa State for the party at all levels in 2027.
Sule said President Tinubu had charged APC governors to ensure victory for the party in their respective states, warning against a situation where voters would support the President but deny votes to other APC candidates on the ballot.
According to him, anyone supporting Tinubu must also support the APC’s candidates across the ballot, including Wadada, whom he formally endorsed as the party’s governorship candidate.
The governor said his endorsement of Wadada was based on consultations and his administration’s commitment to the principle of rotational governorship, under which the governorship is expected to return to the Keffi zone.
Sule recalled that during preparations for the party’s 2026 governorship primaries, aspirants from the Keffi zone were unable to agree on a consensus candidate and subsequently mandated him to make the final choice.
He expressed appreciation to APC members who had returned to the party following the primaries, saying efforts would continue to reconcile with those who were yet to return.
The governor also disclosed that the state’s monthly federal allocation had increased from about ₦13 billion to more than ₦15 billion, which he described as an indication of improved state finances.
Speaking after his endorsement, Wadada thanked Adamu for his efforts towards ensuring that the governorship ticket returned to Nasarawa West, as well as Governor Sule for endorsing his aspiration.
He described the endorsement as a trust that he would continue to work hard to justify.
Wadada also apologised to APC members and members of the public for any offence that may have been committed during the party’s primaries.
He called on party members to base the 2027 campaign on the achievements of the Sule administration in Nasarawa State and those of the Tinubu administration at the federal level, while working collectively for the success of all APC candidates.
Earlier, the state APC Chairman, Dr Aliyu Bello, welcomed stakeholders to the meeting and acknowledged that some members had left the party following the primaries, while others had joined the APC from opposition parties.
Dr Faisal Shuaib, who spoke on behalf of governorship aspirants and stakeholders from Nasarawa West, pledged his support, alongside that of other aspirants, for Wadada and the entire APC ticket.
Shuaib also urged the party leadership to sustain its reconciliation efforts and reach out to members who were yet to return to the APC.
Similarly, Chief Silas Ali Agara, former deputy governor of Nasarawa State and Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), commended the achievements of the Sule administration and urged APC stakeholders to support the party’s candidates to sustain the state’s development.
The meeting ended with stakeholders pledging to work collectively for the victory of APC candidates in Nasarawa State in the 2027 elections.
