The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Ph.D., announced the endorsement during plenary in Lafia, directing the Clerk of the House to communicate the Assembly’s resolution to the National Assembly for further necessary action.

Jatau explained that the proposed legislation seeks to establish state police services while retaining the Nigeria Police Force at the federal level.

“We have endorsed the Sixth Alteration Bill, 2026, seeking to provide a constitutional framework for establishing State Police Services,” the Speaker said.

He commended members of the Assembly for their consultations with relevant stakeholders ahead of the decision, noting that the proposed state police structure could complement the federal police in tackling insecurity and promoting peace across the country.
