The Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has condemned the misconduct of some individuals who reportedly attempted to disrupt the party’s Presidential Campaign Flag-Off rally in Lafia, describing their actions as uncivilised and capable of portraying the state in a negative light before visiting national leaders.
The Director General of the Council, Hon. Dr. Joseph Oboshi Attah, expressed the condemnation in a press statement while reacting to the incident at the rally, which attracted Vice President Kashim Shettima, governors, senators, ministers and other prominent APC leaders.
Attah, however, commended the people of Nasarawa State for their massive turnout at the event, describing it as unprecedented and historic.
He said the rally was peaceful, colourful, disciplined and well-organised, adding that the large crowd drawn from all 13 local government areas and 147 electoral wards demonstrated the people’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC gubernatorial candidate.
According to him, the actions of the alleged miscreants were swiftly overwhelmed by the maturity, discipline and vigilance of party supporters.
The Director General also cautioned various support groups of the party’s candidates against indiscipline and actions capable of bringing the APC into disrepute.
He stressed that no support group was bigger than the party, adding that all groups must operate under the authority, coordination and directives of the Campaign Council.
“No support group is bigger than the party. No personal ambition is greater than our collective victory,” he stated.
Attah further urged party members, stakeholders and supporters not to be distracted by political provocations but to intensify grassroots mobilisation and promote the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Campaign Council also aligned itself with the position of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government calling for the perpetrators of the unrest to be brought to justice, irrespective of their political status or connections.
It further disclosed that its members had been directed to cooperate fully with security agencies to identify those responsible for the incident and their sponsors.
Attah maintained that the council would not condone, protect or associate with anyone involved in violence or lawlessness, stressing that the peace of Nasarawa State remained non-negotiable.
He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to the APC’s electoral victory, assuring President Tinubu, the party’s gubernatorial candidate and the people of Nasarawa State that the campaign council remained united, focused and determined.
