Nasarawa State Government has expressed its willingness to commence the payment of bursary for students soon.
Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Development, Daniel Agyeno, stated this while playing host to the Nasarawa State Students’ Association delegation in Lafia Friday.
Agyeno said the Ministry in collaboration with the Office of the Accountant-General has finalised all financial assessment, stressing that the government would approve the start of disbursement anytime.
He disclosed that the bursary would be disbursed in two phases.
While clearing the air on the sluggish attitude of the Governor Sule administration towards the release of bursary, the Finance Commissioner said the government believes in results not words saying the governor would not say anything it cannot fulfil.
According to him, “the students’ cry has come to an end. The government has made a lot of efforts to start and conclude the disbursement”. He urged students to exercise patience in order not to fall prey to ill-fated organizations that would like to use them for unacceptable gains.
In a brief remark, Comrade Alkhamis Ladan, who is the out-going President-General of NASSA, said the Association has been working closely with all concerned authorities to ensure speedy disbursement of the bursary.
Comr. Ladan appreciated the efforts of the Commissioners for Education and Finance as well as the Scholarship Board and the Office of the Accountant General for working tirelessly.
He assured them of NASSA’s unrelenting support at all times to achieve the aim of good governance in the State.
