Senator Wadada’s Endorsement: How Reason Prevails Over Prophecy

By Mohammed Kilema, Lafia,

In the evolving political discourse surrounding the 2027 gubernatorial contest in Nasarawa State, it has become both necessary and intellectually honest to revisit earlier submissions that juxtaposed the prophetic declaration of Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele—which favoured Mohammed Abubakar Adamu—with a more empirical, evidence-based assessment that pointed decisively in the direction of Ahmed Aliyu Wadada. At the time, the distinction between prophecy and political science was clearly drawn: one rested on belief, the other on verifiable indices. Today, subsequent developments have not only vindicated that position but have also elevated the discourse to a plane where reason, experience, and discernment have triumphed over speculative assertion.
The recent declaration by the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi A. Sule, endorsing Senator Wadada as the preferred flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming 2027 elections, stands as a watershed moment in the political history of the state. It is a decision that must be commended in the strongest possible terms—not merely as a political endorsement, but as an act of uncommon sincerity, courage, and patriotic discernment. In an era where expediency often overshadows principle, Governor Sule has demonstrated a rare commitment to objective evaluation and the long-term interests of Nasarawa State.
It is important to underscore that this endorsement was not arrived at through whimsical preference or sentimental alignment. Rather, it was the product of a rigorous and, indeed, scientific appraisal of established political indices. These indices—grassroots popularity, cross-sectional acceptability, electoral viability, and demonstrable capacity for leadership—have long been recognised as the cornerstones of successful democratic contests. In each of these parameters, Senator Wadada has consistently distinguished himself.
This, it must be said without equivocation, aligns perfectly with the earlier position I advanced. My argument was never predicated on conjecture or personal inclination; it was grounded in observable realities within the political landscape of Nasarawa State. I maintained then, as I do now, that the dynamics of the state favour a candidate whose influence is not confined to elite circles but is deeply rooted in the lived experiences of the people. The Governor’s declaration, therefore, does not merely endorse a candidate—it affirms a methodology, a way of thinking about politics that privileges evidence over assumption. In that sense, I have indeed been vindicated.
Governor Sule’s reasoning, as publicly articulated, reflects a keen understanding of the sociopolitical fabric of the state. His emphasis on Senator Wadada’s grassroots appeal among youths, elders, and diverse communities speaks to a leader who recognises that political legitimacy is earned through connection and sustained engagement. Acceptability and salability—often dismissed as intangible qualities—are, in fact, critical determinants of electoral success. They represent the electorate’s confidence, the trust that a candidate inspires, and the willingness of the people to invest their mandate in his leadership.
Furthermore, the Governor’s choice underscores the importance of continuity and progressive consolidation. Under the stewardship of Abdullahi A. Sule, Nasarawa State has witnessed development at a pace that may, without exaggeration, be described as exponential. Infrastructure has expanded, economic initiatives have taken root, and governance has been characterised by a deliberate focus on inclusivity and sustainability. The selection of Senator Wadada, therefore, is not an isolated decision; it is part of a broader strategy to preserve and enhance these gains.
Senator Wadada’s own disposition towards governance further reinforces the wisdom of this choice. He has, on multiple occasions, expressed admiration for the achievements of Governor Sule and articulated a clear desire to build upon them. His commitment to injecting renewed energy into the existing machinery of governance is not mere rhetoric; it is anchored in a track record of performance and a demonstrable capacity for strategic thinking. His vision of propelling Nasarawa State into the league of the most competitive and respected states in Nigeria resonates with the aspirations of the populace.
However, this endorsement must also be understood within the context of responsibility. An “anointing” of this magnitude is not a coronation; it is a call to service. It imposes an onerous obligation on Senator Wadada to justify the confidence reposed in him—not only by the Governor and the APC leadership but, more importantly, by the people of Nasarawa State. Leadership at this level demands humility, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to the common good. It requires the ability to navigate complex challenges with prudence and to deliver tangible outcomes without faltering.
In this regard, I urge Senator Wadada to accept this consensus with a profound sense of duty. The path ahead will demand not only political acumen but also moral fortitude. The expectations of the people will be high, and rightly so. Yet, given his antecedents, there is every reason to believe that he possesses the requisite capacity to meet—and indeed exceed—these expectations.
It is equally imperative to recognise that this development transcends individual ambition. It is not a victory for Senator Wadada alone; it is a collective achievement for the APC and the broader political community in Nasarawa State. It represents a moment of convergence—a unification of purpose that has the potential to steer the party towards an uncontestable electoral triumph. Such unity, however, must be nurtured and sustained.
To this end, I call upon all aspirants and stakeholders within the APC to rally behind Senator Wadada. Political competition, while necessary, must ultimately give way to collective interest. The strength of any political party lies in its ability to close ranks after internal contests and present a united front to the electorate. This is one such moment that demands magnanimity, foresight, and a shared commitment to the greater good.
In conclusion, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, to the other frontline aspirants who contributed to the vibrancy of the process, and to all those who invested their time, resources, and energy in the noble pursuit of making Nasarawa State More Enviable—(MaNaSMEn). The journey ahead is undoubtedly demanding, but with unity, clarity of purpose, and adherence to the principles that have guided this momentous decision, success is not only possible—it is assured.
History, as it unfolds, will record that at a critical juncture, reason prevailed over speculation, and leadership rose to the occasion.
