Hon. Ibrahim Hamza Slams Al-Makura’s ‘Double Standards’ on Successor Endorsements.

By Our Reporter

Hon. Ibrahim Hamza has strongly criticized former Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, over his recent comments cautioning against early endorsements ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, describing the position as “hypocritical and misleading.”
In a statement issued on Sunday, Hamza said Al-Makura’s remarks in Lafia failed to reflect his own political conduct during his time in office. He argued that the former governor lacked the moral standing to fault Governor Abdullahi Sule, given what he described as a clear precedent set by Al-Makura himself.
Hamza pointed out that Al-Makura had publicly declared Sule as his preferred successor approximately four months before the APC primaries in the lead-up to the 2019 governorship election. In contrast, he noted that Governor Sule’s recent indication of a preferred successor comes barely one month before the party’s primaries.
“It is surprising that a leader who openly endorsed his successor several months before the primaries would now turn around to caution others against similar actions, even when done much closer to the official timeline,” Hamza said.
He stressed that while internal democracy and due process are important, consistency and fairness in political commentary are equally crucial. According to him, selective outrage only serves to deepen divisions within the party and mislead the public.
Hamza further argued that endorsements, whether early or late, are part of political realities and should not be singled out for criticism when they fall within acceptable norms of party practice.
“The issue is not about timing alone but about sincerity. If four months before primaries was acceptable then, it is difficult to justify condemning a similar move made just one month to primaries now,” he added.
He urged party stakeholders to focus on unity and constructive engagement rather than what he described as “revisionist narratives,” warning that such contradictions could undermine trust within the APC in Nasarawa State.
