Hajara Danyaro Defends Governor Sule Over Wadada’s Endorsement

By Our Reporter

A member of the House of Assembly in Nasarawa State, Hajara Danyaro, has defended the decision of Governor Abdullahi Sule to back a preferred successor, insisting that the process was agreed upon by all parties involved.
Speaking in Nasarawa during a stakeholders meeting amid growing discontent within sections of the party, Danyaro explained that the governor had initially refrained from imposing a candidate. According to her, Sule urged the leading aspirants to reach a consensus among themselves and present a single candidate for endorsement.
She said the governor made it clear that he would respect their collective decision if they were able to agree. However, the aspirants reportedly failed to settle on one person after a series of consultations and internal negotiations.
Danyaro stated that, faced with the deadlock, the aspirants themselves returned to the governor and asked him to make the final choice. It was at that point, she noted, that Governor Sule exercised the authority they had collectively handed back to him.
“He gave them the opportunity to decide among themselves, but they could not,” she said. “They came back and told him to choose, and now that he has chosen Ahmed Wadada Aliyu some of them are complaining.”
The lawmaker stressed that all the aspirants had earlier pledged to abide by whatever outcome emerged from the process, including a scenario where the governor would have to step in. She described the current backlash as inconsistent with that agreement.
Danyaro therefore urged party members and supporters to respect the governor’s decision, emphasizing that it was made only after the aspirants failed to resolve the matter internally.
“No one should complain,” she added. “They all agreed beforehand to accept the decision. The governor only acted after they asked him to do so.”
Her remarks come as tensions continue to rise within the Nasarawa APC, with some factions expressing dissatisfaction over the emergence of Wadada as the preferred candidate. However, Danyaro maintained that party unity should take precedence, warning that internal disputes could weaken the APC ahead of upcoming elections.
