The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected what it described as attempts to misrepresent legitimate political consultations as coercion, insisting that its processes ahead of the 2027 elections remain democratic, transparent, and inclusive.
Addressing a press conference in Lafia today, the State Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello, said the party would not be distracted by “misleading and incendiary publications” aimed at creating tension within its ranks. He emphasized that consultations among stakeholders are routine and lawful, dismissing claims that party officials were being pressured to adopt any particular aspirant.
Bello reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, stating that all aspirants are free to contest in the forthcoming primaries. According to him, the APC has already put in place a comprehensive framework to ensure that the exercise is conducted in line with the Electoral Act and party guidelines, guaranteeing a level playing field for all contestants.
The chairman noted that the party remains united as it prepares for the primaries, adding that the will of members would ultimately determine the outcome of the process.
He also used the occasion to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as bold and transformative leadership, citing ongoing reforms in the economy, infrastructure, and national security. Bello announced the endorsement of Tinubu for a second term in 2027, saying it would allow him to consolidate on existing achievements.
Similarly, he praised the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, for strengthening party unity and internal democracy across the country.
At the state level, Bello passed a vote of confidence on Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, highlighting strides in infrastructure development, economic growth, and governance. He said the governor’s leadership has boosted public confidence and strengthened the party’s position in the state.
The chairman also acknowledged the emergence of Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the governor’s preferred aspirant, describing the move as a product of broad consultations aimed at ensuring continuity and stability. However, he reiterated that the endorsement does not preclude other aspirants from participating in the primaries.
Calling for unity, Bello urged party members to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid actions that could deepen divisions. He stressed the importance of dialogue, mutual respect, and adherence to party rules as the APC positions itself for victory in the 2027 general elections.
He concluded by appreciating the media for its role in promoting democratic governance and keeping the public informed.
