Nigerian politics is often unpredictable. The terrain is, of course, full of ambition, and most of the time this ambition overshadows allegiance. However, Rt. Hon. Dr. Musa Ahmed Muhammed, the Baraden Nasarawa, has shown that his ambition does not override his loyalty to his principal. When ambition clashes with allegiance, he has chosen the path of loyalty—a path many would find difficult to follow. His decision to step aside from the governorship race is clearly a mark of allegiance and a demonstration of his commitment to unity and continuity in Nasarawa State.
In Nasarawa State today, it is easy to make promises of loyalty when it is convenient. It is much harder to follow through when personal ambition is at stake. That is exactly why the Baraden Nasarawa’s recent decision to withdraw from the race is worthy of praise. During his welcome rally in Keffi, Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu showered praises on the Baraden Nasarawa and other aspirants who stepped down in his favor. By withdrawing from the Nasarawa 2027 governorship race after Governor Abdullahi A. Sule signaled his preferred successor, Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, Musa Ahmed Muhammed did not just make a political move—he showed that loyalty matters in every dealing with one’s principal.
The Baraden Nasarawa’s position should not be seen as blind allegiance, as some may quickly argue, but rather as a sign of his belief that the future holds greater promise. In politics, there is a clear difference between calculated ambition and a complete disregard for loyalty. What the Baraden Nasarawa has demonstrated is an understanding that political strength is not always about pushing forward; sometimes, it is about stepping back at the right time.
More importantly, the Baraden Nasarawa has proven himself to be a man of his word. In an environment where backdoor deals and last-minute betrayals have become almost routine, consistency is rare. Yet, Musa Ahmed Muhammed has shown that his loyalty to Governor Abdullahi Sule is not just rhetoric—it is something he is willing to act upon, even when it costs him a major opportunity.
His reaffirmation of support for Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu further reinforces this point. Rather than creating factions or fueling internal rivalry, the Baraden Nasarawa has chosen to consolidate support in a single direction for his principal and his party, the APC. Whether one agrees with that direction or not, the discipline it reflects is difficult to ignore.
Of course, not everyone will view this move in a purely positive light. Critics may argue that stepping down limits democratic competition or reduces the diversity of choices available to voters. That is a fair concern and should not be dismissed outright. Healthy political systems thrive on robust contestation.
However, within the framework of party politics, especially in a setting like Nasarawa State, unity often determines electoral success, while divisions have cost parties dearly in the past. From that perspective, Musa Ahmed Muhammed’s decision can be seen as a strategic sacrifice aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in 2027.
At the end of the day, what stands out is character. The Baraden Nasarawa has shown that loyalty, when genuinely practiced, is not a weakness but a form of discipline. It reflects a willingness to align personal goals with a broader vision.
In doing so, the Baraden Nasarawa has set himself apart—not just as a politician, but as a true loyalist of Governor Abdullahi Sule: a man who does not merely speak about unity, but actively works to preserve it.
