Nalaraba Backs Wadada, Vows Statewide Mobilisation After Quitting Nasarawa Governorship Race

Hon. Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba has pledged to deploy his political machinery across Nasarawa State in support of Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu following his withdrawal from the 2027 governorship race.
Nalaraba, a frontline aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the declaration in Lafia after concluding what he described as wide-ranging consultations with stakeholders across the state. He said at a press conference that his decision to step down was driven by the need to preserve party unity and ensure a smooth path for the emergence of a consensus candidate.
“I will mobilize my political structure across the 147 wards and 13 local government areas to ensure the success of our party’s consensus arrangement,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to the APC’s internal cohesion ahead of the primaries and general elections.
Nalaraba aligned himself with the position of the state leadership, particularly the endorsement of Senator Wadada by Governor Abdullahi Sule as the preferred successor. He emphasized that his withdrawal should not be seen as a sign of weakness, but as a deliberate move reflecting political maturity and loyalty to the party.
According to him, prioritizing the stability of the APC over personal ambition remains critical to sustaining its dominance in Nasarawa State.
While stepping down from the governorship contest, Nalaraba announced his intention to contest the Nasarawa South Senatorial District seat in the National Assembly. He said the decision followed persistent calls from constituents who believe he can better serve at the legislative level.
He also highlighted his track record of grassroots engagement, citing initiatives such as scholarship schemes for indigent students, distribution of palliatives to vulnerable groups, and empowerment programmes for youths and widows.
Nalaraba further commended Governor Sule for his inclusive leadership style and efforts in maintaining peace and unity within the party and the state at large.
The development is seen as a significant boost for the APC’s consensus strategy in Nasarawa, as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
