Governor Abdullahi Sule has presented the first electricity generation and Independent Electricity Distribution Network (IEDN) licences in Nasarawa State to Tetracore Power Company Limited, marking a major step in the state’s push to establish its own electricity market.
The licences were presented during the ongoing Nasarawa Investment Summit in Lafia, in what government officials described as a milestone in the implementation of the Nasarawa State Electricity Law.
Speaking at the event, Governor Sule said the move demonstrates the administration’s commitment to attracting private investment into the power sector and improving electricity supply across the state.
According to him, the licences authorize Tetracore Power Company Limited to generate and distribute electricity within its approved network area under the supervision of the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NASERC).
The governor said the state’s electricity reform agenda is designed to address power shortages, stimulate industrial growth, create jobs and strengthen the economy.
Chairman of NASERC, Engr. Abubakar Bello, commended the governor for what he described as a bold and forward-looking initiative. He assured stakeholders that the commission would maintain a strong regulatory framework to protect consumers and support sustainable investment in the sector.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Tetracore Power Company Limited thanked the Nasarawa State Government for creating an enabling business environment and pledged the company’s commitment to providing reliable and quality electricity services to residents and businesses.
The development places Nasarawa among the first states in Nigeria to operationalize an intrastate electricity market following the enactment of the Electricity Act 2023 and the domestication of the Nasarawa State Electricity Law 2025.
The summit continues with discussions focused on investment opportunities, infrastructure development and economic expansion in Nasarawa State.
