Dr. Zakka Ledkwi Yakubu’s recent outburst against the Nasarawa State Government is but a demonstration of hypocrisy, political opportunism, and calculated deceit. For a man who served as Accountant General of Nasarawa State under the Al-Makura administration and remained part of the same power structure now led by Governor Abdullahi Sule, his comments amounted to nothing short of self-indictment.
It is astonishing that Dr. Zakka suddenly claims to “understand the system” and “know what comes into the state,” as though he was a helpless bystander all these years. Nigerians and the people of Nasarawa State must ask: where was this newfound conscience when he occupied one of the most powerful financial offices in the state? Was he asleep while allocations were being managed? Or is he now admitting that the system he helped supervise failed the people?
A former Accountant General cannot conveniently distance himself from the very financial architecture he once controlled. If indeed there is “little to show” for the billions accruing to the state, then Dr. Zakka must accept his own share of responsibility before attempting to posture as a messiah. One cannot dine at the table for years and suddenly pretend to be an outsider exposing corruption after political ambition enters the picture.
His statement is not courage; it is a confession.
The truth is that Dr. Zakka was an insider during the years Nasarawa’s finances were managed under the administrations of Al-Makura and now Sule. He cannot claim ignorance of how state resources were utilised. If there were leakages, mismanagement, or misplaced priorities, then he was part of the machinery that enabled them. Attempting to weaponised the political environment to gain advantage only exposes the desperation behind his governorship ambition.
Even more laughable is his sudden concern about solid minerals and youth unemployment. The same political establishment he proudly served had years to build processing industries, create jobs, and position Nasarawa as a hub for mineral beneficiation. What concrete blueprint did he present then? What resistance did he offer when he realised that things are not going the way it supposed go?
Dr. Zakka should stop insulting the intelligence of the people. Nasarawa citizens deserve accountability, But accountability must begin with those who occupied strategic offices and benefited from the same system they now condemn.
The people of Nasarawa are wiser than this Shenanigans. They know that genuine leadership is built on consistency, integrity, and responsibility not selective outrage triggered by governorship ambition.
