Nasarawa Police Command Vows to Deploy Necessary Measures to Maintain Public Order

The Nasarawa State Police Command has vowed to deploy all lawful measures necessary to maintain public order and safeguard residents from intimidation, harassment, and any form of disturbance, warning that individuals or groups who violate electoral laws will face arrest and prosecution.
The warning was issued by the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, following a violent clash between supporters of rival political office seekers in parts of Nasarawa State.
According to the Command, the clash resulted in the destruction of property, vandalisation of campaign billboards, and damage to vehicles belonging to innocent members of the public, raising concerns over the growing activities of political supporters ahead of the election season.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Commissioner cautioned politicians, their supporters, and political groups against organising rallies, processions, and other campaign activities in violation of the Electoral Act.
The Command reminded political actors that Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, provides that political campaigns shall commence not earlier than 150 days before polling day and end 24 hours before the election.
CP Mohammed expressed concern that the actions of some political supporters could threaten the peaceful atmosphere currently enjoyed across the state. He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to neutrality and its resolve to provide a level playing field for all political actors while protecting lives and property.
He advised all political parties, aspirants, support groups, and their agents to strictly comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act regarding the commencement and conduct of campaigns, rallies, meetings, processions, and related political activities.
The Commissioner further warned that any individual, group, or political organisation found engaging in unlawful political activities, sponsoring thugs, violating the Electoral Act, or participating in acts capable of causing a breach of peace would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
He also called on parents, guardians, community leaders, and political stakeholders to caution their wards and supporters against violence, hooliganism, political intolerance, and other actions capable of undermining peace and security in the state.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, secure, and conducive environment for all residents and urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities or threats to public peace to the nearest police formation.
