EDITORIAL: Celebrating Dr. Usman Iskilu Saleh

Today, 17 August 2026, offers an opportunity to celebrate not only the birthday of Dr. Usman Iskilu Saleh but a life dedicated to public service and the improvement of primary healthcare in Nasarawa State.
Dr. Usman Iskilu Saleh, Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, deserves celebration and commendation for the commitment he has demonstrated in a sector that remains fundamental to the wellbeing of citizens of Nasarawa state.
Primary healthcare is the foundation upon which an effective health system is built. It is where many citizens first encounter the healthcare system, particularly in rural and underserved communities. Consequently, leadership in this vital sector carries a responsibility that goes beyond administration. It requires a clear understanding of the needs of ordinary people and the determination to translate health care policies and programmes into tangible benefits.
It is against this background that Dr. Saleh’s contribution merits recognition of the people of Nasarawa state.
Public office is temporary, but the impact of responsible leadership can endure. The real test of a public servant should therefore not be the prominence of the office held, but the difference made while occupying such an office. In this regard, Dr. Saleh’s dedication to strengthening primary healthcare reflects an important principle of leadership which is ultimately about service to the people.
Dr. Saleh’s approach to leadership is characterised by commitment, humility and devotion to duty. This indeed, offers a useful reminder at a time when public leadership is often judged by titles and visibility. Effective leadership requires something deeper, a willingness to work, listen, collaborate and remain focused on the people as being demonstrated by Dr. Usman Iskilu Saleh.
The healthcare sector, in particular, in Nasarawa state demands people with Dr. Saleh’s qualities.

Of. course,  challenges in healthcare cannot be solved overnight, and sustainable progress requires consistency, institutional strengthening and the collective efforts of both the government, healthcare professionals and communities. Dr. Saleh understands all these realities, thus he deserves encouragement and constructive support.
As he marks another year today, this newspaper believes the occasion should also serve as a reminder of the importance of recognising public servants who dedicate themselves to the common good.
We in Nasarawa Eye, therefore commend Dr. Usman Iskilu Saleh for his service to Nasarawa State’s primary healthcare system and encourage him to remain steadfast in the pursuit of improved healthcare delivery.
Birthdays come and go, but a life of service leaves a lasting imprint.
We wish Dr. Saleh sound health, wisdom, renewed strength and greater accomplishments in the years ahead. May his continued service bring meaningful improvements to the lives of the people of Nasarawa State.
Happy birthday, Dr. Usman Iskilu Saleh.
