Baraden Nasarawa: A Proud Moment for Nasarawa State

By Rayyanu Bala

There are moments when the achievements of one individual become a source of pride for an entire state. For many people in Nasarawa State, the participation of Rt. Hon. Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed, the Baraden Nasarawa and Accountant-General of Nasarawa State, in the ongoing Capacity Building Programme for the Accountants-General of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Accountant-General of the Federation in Casablanca, Morocco, is one of those moments.
The programme, organised by the Nigeria Revenue Service, has brought together senior financial management officials from across Nigeria for an international learning and professional development engagement. It provides an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas, study contemporary approaches to public financial management and revenue administration, and acquire knowledge that can strengthen governance when they return home.
For Nasarawa State, the presence of Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed at such a gathering carries particular significance. It is not simply about attending a training programme in Morocco; it is also about representing Nasarawa State at a national and international professional forum where important discussions on the management of public resources are taking place.
And this is where the conversation about Baraden Nasarawa becomes important.
To many people who have followed his career and contributions to public service in Nasarawa State, Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed stands out as an Accountant-General who has brought professionalism, visibility, and a strong sense of responsibility to the office. In the opinion of critical stakeholders and admirers, he is the best Accountant-General Nasarawa State has ever had, a reflection of their appreciation of his approach to public financial administration and service.
Of course, describing someone as “the best” is ultimately an opinion, and reasonable people may have different views. However, there is no doubt that public officials are judged not only by the positions they occupy but also by their commitment to learning, adapting, and improving the institutions they serve.
His participation in the Casablanca programme fits into that broader picture.
Public financial management is changing rapidly. Governments everywhere are expected to improve transparency, strengthen revenue systems, manage resources responsibly, and adopt modern approaches to financial administration. For a Baraden Nasarawa, continuous learning is therefore not a luxury; it is part of the responsibility of the office.
That is why programmes such as this matter to Nasarawa State and why his participation is significant.
Dr. Musa’s participation gives him an opportunity to learn from experiences beyond Nigeria, interact with counterparts from other states, and examine approaches that could potentially be adapted to the realities of Nasarawa State. The real value of such an international engagement, however, will ultimately be measured by what participants bring back and how those lessons can contribute to better financial administration.
For Nasarawa State, there is every reason to hope that the Baraden Nasarawa’s experience will translate into useful ideas and a renewed commitment to public service.
The title “Baraden Nasarawa” itself speaks to the recognition he enjoys, while his position as Accountant-General places him at the heart of the state’s financial administration. Combining these responsibilities with continuous professional development sends a simple but important message: effective public service requires people who are willing to keep learning.
As the Casablanca programme continues, one can only wish Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed fruitful and impactful sessions. The expectation is that he will return to Nasarawa with fresh perspectives, renewed energy, and practical insights that can further contribute to the state’s financial administration and, by extension, national development.
For his admirers, this is another reason to celebrate a man they regard as one of the outstanding public servants Nasarawa State has produced and, in the view of many, the best Accountant-General the state has ever had.
Ultimately, public service is about impact. Titles may attract attention, programmes may provide new knowledge, and recognition may bring pride, but the lasting measure is how those opportunities are converted into better service for the people.
That is the expectation many people in Nasarawa State will have when Baraden Nasarawa returns from Casablanca: that the experience will add even greater value to his service and contribute to the continuing development of the state and the nation.
